A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has revealed his desire to extend the loan spell of defender Leon Barnett from his former club Norwich City - but will not rush any decision as City look to continue their form going into the final few matches of the season.
Barnett was brought in as a emergency cover after Mark Hudson and Ben Turner were ruled out by injury. Hudson's ankle problem looks set for rule him out for a few weeks but the news on Turner's injury is better and the former Coventry City man could be back in action after the International break.
Barnett recovered from a difficult opening few minutes on debut, and his partnership with the emerging Ben Nugent was solid against a physical Sheffield Wednesday attack as City fought out a crucial win.
Speaking of extending Barnett's loan, Mackay told WalesOnline:
"I am staying in regular contact with manager Chris Hughton at Norwich, Leon has fitted in well and it could well be we want him to stay longer. That`s a conversation we will have with Norwich when the time is right."
The initial loan spell was for a 28-day period, with the loan window due to close this week. However, existing loan deals can be extended with the permission of both clubs and the FA - usually a formality.

We should extend. I would take him for next season.

Extend it Malky, he looked quite good up at the owls, and hadn't had much time to train with the squad. He will only get better

His days seem numbered there and if their going to stay up they will want to strengthen next season and maybe getting rid of some payers.
