Fans clubbing in Scotland wearing their Welsh shirts tonight

Sat Mar 23, 2013 12:06 am

Isn't it sad that Wales fans are able to go clubbing in Scotland tonight wearing their Welsh shirts, but if we wear a Wales football shirt in Cardiff they don't let us in anywhere, yet rugby shirts are perfectly acceptable on international days!

This is why I stay in Canton before and after games to look after the pubs that look after me. Cardiff city centre with their pro rugby discriminating against their own football fans can piss off!

It's terrible to be honest, last week there was 49 arrests in one night, yet if this happened at a Wales international, Cardiff/Swansea game then it would be mayhem. Football fans still have that burden over them on being stereotyped as hooligans and it's incredibly annoying. What I will say is though, fair play to the Rugby lads in Canton last week, The CCSC coaches were on the way to the CCS and they clapped us, doing the ayatollah etc. Personally I'd love to see the nation being behind both sports, not just rugby. There's no reason why not to if we're promoted but it seems the latter half is just incredibly stuck on rugby

Asked a lot of people if they were aware that Ospreys v Dragons on tonight.. none of them had a single clue and that was the people I argued with last week claiming their big rugby fans in club and international.

I totally agree. It would be nice if the nation got behind their country with every sport. Unfortunately, us football fans are seen as the enemy/rival to "our nations game" and we get discriminated against. It's pathetic.

That says it all. Rugby internationals are just an excuse for everyone to go out on the lash. A Wales international rugby match isn't a sport, it's an event. Your post and club rugby attendences proves very little people in Wales care about rugby.

I am not fully bothered Wales ent the talking about in Football as it only has the people who actually care about Wales and love it to talk about it and support the team..

In Rugby no-one cares about the sport.

I read these forum debates about 'the egg' all the time.
I'm a season ticket holder down the CCS and have been a supporter of Cardiff City for well over 40 years.
I never played football but played rugby for many years at various levels including representing my country, Wales...
I support all sports Welsh and yes I was at the Wales v England game last Saturday and yes again I was 'pissed'.
Last night I watched the Welsh game, great result, and then watched the Osprey game.
I totally agree that rugby matches are an event but that is because your average fan would not feel as comfortable at a football match as they do at rugby.
Could you imagine a Wales v England match in Cardiff with 200 people in a pub split 50/50.... No.
As for the arrests, around 50, none were for violence or rugby related. There are probably 30 every weekend without the extra 75,000 people in Cardiff for the rugby.
I no longer play rugby but still go to and enjoy the big matches and I do know a fair bit about the game. I now watch Cardiff City every game that I'm not working, home and away and have traveled with Carlos Coaches many times.
And my last point is.. I've been around the country and have been refused entry to many clubs and bars wearing a rugby shirt but have also been in Cardiff on a rugby matchday wearing my Bluebirds shirt and been allowed in everywhere. I support 2 teams Wales (playing anything) and Cardiff City.... Not 2 sports!!

I totally respect your post. Regarding your last point, are you serious about being allowed into places in Cardiff wearing your Bluebirds shirt on rugby international days? If so, what places are these? I know they're more lenient during the day but in the evening after the game there was absolutely no chance with me wearing a City shirt or Wales football shirt in the several places I tried going into in the past?

I came back from a meeting in London a few years back and went to meet some of the boys in Walkabout - I was allowed in as long as I took my Cardiff City tie off and pin badge on my coat! Says it all really! :x

It was Bristol City away last year, same day as Wales played Italy in Cardiff. You're probably correct with the earlier in the day quote. It was a 17.20 kick off and I had my Cardiff shirt on and my wife had a retro city shirt. We watched the game in Lloyds bar.
Just want to point out that I don't think this is right mind. It's a load of bollox that you can't go into a pub in a Cardiff shirt.... In Cardiff.
Unfortunately it's down to the reputation that we as football supporters have from years previous. As for Arri having to take a tie off is just absolutely ridiculous.
I also agree that if there is any sort of trouble at rugby it's down to 'over enjoyment' but put a football shirt of any kind at the scene and its football related. Again down to reputation. Not sure this will ever change. But good on Glasgow last night for allowing our boys to celebrate wearing their colours.

Anyone who goes out clubbing in a football or rugby shirt is a scruff
