Not good that.

Do you have last seasons away table?

Well I have done my bit only missing 3 away games so far this season :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Not too bad really. The clubs at the top are the ones with not far to travel. Other than Bristol all our games are 100+ miles away

We'll rise up that with the last few games.

I've done Brighton and Birmingham this season. It gets way too expensive with my 2 boys tagging along and petrol etc.

Last season i did Watford, Reading, Southampton, WBA, Wembley & Oxford.

But if you look at it, the only clubs which are closest to us are Wolves and Bristol City where we sold our allocations.

All the other clubs are based up North of England, Central England or London, which is quite a distance for us to travel. Majority of the clubs are near each other e.g. Forest, Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Wolves where travelling time is much less compared to us. Thus, they seem to sell their full allocations but struggle when travelling longer distances. But not taking into account Leeds, who always seem to travel well away in numbers.

Be interesting to see average away fans taking into account travelling distance, I reckon we would fair quite high along with Brighton, Watford and Hull.

Leeds - huge support, huge history, Sheff Wed - again huge support, Forest - big city, huge history, Leicester and Derby - in the middle of a lot of clubs, the Midlands is a heaven for away fans, Brighton - fair play very decent support, Bolton - Ex Premiership club recently, Palace - decent, Wolves, Huddersfield, Blackburn - decent considering they're so far down, Boro - wow wasn't expecting that, decent.

Which I think is exellent ,there was a time when I had the same issues and did not travel a lot without sounding patronising :malky: :malky: :malky:

Dress it up however but our away support is shit these days.
I know the restrictions we've had, bubbles, vouchers, collapse of the rams, rebrand etc...but we had just as good support 25 years ago in division 4.

I still think we're passionate as ever away, it will zoom once promoted, I'm sorry but I really hate it when our own fans criticise our support, when most don't even go anyway

Spot on.

What I hate even more though is when people say we have a shit atmosphere at home, when they just sit there and don't say a word all game. That's a lot of big characters on this board too...

Exactly. If we all want an atmosphere, then we all have to be on the same wave length, not just moan when we get home etc on a messageboard! It's quite annoying though on the away support, we aren't as big when it comes to Leeds on away support but we weren't a Champions League semi finalist team 11 years ago

What ever happened to that champions league Leeds side? They played away in a cup tie and were never the same after it :D .
Watch us storm up that average away attendance table with big away support in our last few games.

Boro, Ipswich, Charlton, Palace,Millwall etc all travel long miles, none of them runaway leaders of the Championship.

Does this table really matter, for myself and my 2 boys who go to most of the away games it means nothing to us, as long as enjoy the away day that is all that counts, weather there is a 100 or 3000 us, if leeds and so on take more than us good luck to them. But if we do get to the prem i bet a lot of the ones that say they cant afford it this season will some how manage to find the money next season  :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Charlton Palace and Millwall all on each others doorstep.

It's a myth that we took bigger followings away in the lower divisions.

We did not average more than 1,000 in div 4. We did have occasional huge followings for big games.

I've worked out by the end of the season we'll average around 1,500 which puts us well up there.

Re: AVERAGE AWAY SUPPORT OF CHAMPIONSHIP CLUBS 2012/13

Sun Apr 28, 2013 11:51 am

We've taken 1500+ to each of our last few aways, that should put us up in the top 10 at least?

Re: AVERAGE AWAY SUPPORT OF CHAMPIONSHIP CLUBS 2012/13

Sun Apr 28, 2013 11:57 am

Probably because we've been in this league for 10 years and we've all seen the same stadiums over and over again.

We'll sell out every home/away game next season.

I'd like to see that after the Hull game, surely the average would be about1,600 then? :ayatollah:

Ipswich's support is very good and fair play to Boro, but even Boro have close trips to Hull, Leeds and not too far to all the other Yorks clubs. Apart from Bristol (where we sold out) all our trips are over 2 hours. Not many sides bring more to us than we do to them .

Palace, Charlton, Millwall all have very short trips to each other's grounds and also have Watford and Brighton close by.

3 or 4 trips when you take 3-4000 will bump up the average dramatically.

I do not have the figures but surely the best metric would be the total attendance divided by the total number of miles travelled divided. (fans per mile).

Leeds probably still come out top, well supported for a declining team/city.
