I 100% WOULD NOT.

" Wales boss Chris Coleman hopes World Cup wins will secure his job "

Mar 19 2013

Chris Coleman admits World Cup wins will increase the chances of extending his Wales stay.

Coleman’s contract runs until the 2014 World Cup finals but, with Wales almost out of the race for qualification after three defeats in four games on the road to Brazil, it is more likely to come down to how his team perform in the next seven months.

The Welsh FA and Welsh supporters will want evidence of progress in that time, starting with the forthcoming World Cup double-header against Scotland and Croatia.

“I’ve been in the job just over a year and I think I have 18 months left on my contract up until the finals,” said Coleman, seeking to complete a World Cup double over Scotland in Glasgow on Friday after last October’s 2-1 Gareth Bale-inspired win in Cardiff.

“I always said I wouldn’t leave between the start or the end of my contract. I haven’t looked at it any differently.

“In another six or 12 months if it is obvious we can’t qualify or I feel I can’t affect the situation, then it’s a conversation with the powers that be.

“Of course, it would be interesting to see what happens but, hand on heart, I haven’t thought about it.

“There is so much distance between the games that when they come around you just concentrate on getting the result and performance.

“What will be down the line, will be – but I won’t even think of Croatia until we have got what we want in Scotland. I can’t afford to.”

Asked whether his future was linked to victories during the rest of the campaign, Coleman replied: “Yes – but I will sit down with the necessary people further down the line.

“Let’s get these next results and keep edging things forward by making sure everything is positive.

“Let’s get the points we want and get two wins. I don’t say this lightly and I don’t wish to be disrespectful, but if we are going to do anything in this group we have to get six points against Scotland and Croatia.

“And we can get those six points. They are two tough games, but this is football.

“We have to look at that if we are going to scare Belgium or Croatia (at the top of the group).”

Coleman’s former international team-mate Robbie Savage caused a stir last week when he suggested Scotland v Wales wasn’t a big game.

It might not be as far as the overall picture in Group A is concerned, but Hampden Park will still be packed to the rafters for a classic Battle of Britain contest.

And Coleman – who admits he has now got to grips with his job in the aftermath of succeeding the late Gary Speed – is quick to dismiss Savage’s comments.

“If you have never been a manager then you can make comments like that,” he said.

“Even if you’ve been a manager for a pre-season friendly at a club then you will want to win the game.

“Winning breeds confidence and when you get in the habit of winning, just like losing, it’s hard to get out of it.

“When you do win, you want it to continue. For anyone to describe Wales/Scotland as a nothing game is quite surprising for me.

“Even if it was a friendly at Hampden Park in June it would be huge and I’m really looking forward to the next two games.

“Everything is on the line again. I’d rather be involved in games like that, I live for that.”

Coleman has lost Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen (shoulder) and Leeds striker Steve Morison (calf) for both qualifiers but called up Millwall marksman Jermaine Easter and Bristol City defender Lewin Nyatanga.

Kent-born sensation Jonathan Williams – recently linked with Premier League champions Manchester City – should win his first cap amid frustration from his club, Crystal Palace, that England have overlooked his burgeoning talent.

“I do worry a little about England’s recruitment policy sometimes,” said Palace co-chairman Steve Parish.

“Little Jonny Williams is a fantastic player in the Jack Wilshere mould but he’s opted for Wales.

“There is a prejudice in the England set-up about Premier League players and I feel sometimes the other countries are making more of an effort to get these kids.”

Coleman knows he has a special forward on his hands but Williams, still a teenager until October, won’t be tied to Wales totally until he plays a competitive fixture.

But Coleman said: “I haven’t put him in the squad so I can give him 15 minutes to tie him down; I’ve put him in because I think he can help us win the game.

No, definitely not.

I can't bring myself to go to a single Wales game since Coleman took over. Hate his style of football and one win is woeful. Especially given the manner of our defeats.

Get him out, bring in Tony Pulis or Nigel Adkins.

It's two wins, actually. Get the facts right, at the very least.

Realistically, Verheijen isn't coming back. And the FAW would never employ him again, anyway.

How long is his existing contract? I wouldn't offer him a new one until we see signs of improvement. Based on what we've seen so far, he doesn't deserve a new contract

At the end of the campaign depening on results.

The team is showing positive signs of moving out of the shadow of the hangover following Speed's death.

A situation that would have been hugely traumatic for all involved but 2 wins in the last 3 games ( I think) show that now hopefully Coleman is putting his own plans into practice rather than trying to mimic what Speed had done.

I certainly think he deserves the benefit of the doubt for now.

No way.

The minute he was appointed I knew he was appointed I knew we wouldn't start well.

The players were literally so down and you can understand when Speed passed away.

Coleman lacks the agression and pick the players up a little bit.

I literally can't stand the Welsh FA.

Always stick by appointing someone Welsh when I know there is no-one who will take us to the best of our abilitys.

Yet they are happy with an Englishman leading us out.

Disgraceful.

My boycott for Wales has nothing to do with Coleman tho.

No if it was my decision

He does come across as a decent sort of bloke & he did take over in difficult circumstances but at the end of the day results have not been good enough.

I lost all hope when they appointed that idiot Hartson to the coaching staff.

But I would imagine them old clowns at the FAW will give him another contract.

I've not been a fan of Coleman purely because he is exactly like Dave Jones in the fact that it is never his fault. I would give him these two games coming up and if we don't perform then get rid. It's not only been the results that has concerned me but his tactics and the way in which we have lost.

Some FACTS....

Gary Speed after 7 games

Won 2
Drawn 0
Lost 5

Chris Coleman after 7 games

Won 2
Drawn 0
Lost 5

Coleman, who has a far superior management history than Speed, is currently in the EXACT same position Speed was after 7 games. Speed only managed us for a further 3 games but subsequently won all three. If Coleman wins his next three for Wales the he will continue to have the exact same record Speed did in his entire reign.

Yet I wonder if there will still be threads like this. It smacks of a vendetta to me.

BluebirdSince1946, it's not just his record so far, it's the manner of the defeats and the way we are playing.

In Coleman's defence, we don't exactly have a great pool of players and outside our best XI we have very little in terms of talent and even the starting XI isn't the best. I hold no vendetta against a manager because of his hometown or home club or whatever. I just want Wales to do well. I just can't see it with Coleman though. I've been willing to give him a chance but we will see. The next two games are pivotal for me in my judgment of him.

I question how long the captiancy will be for.

If Williams went out for one game injured I will turn up to watch Wales depsite boycotting.
