"THE PREMIER LEAGUE - VIEW FROM A WOLVES FAN"

Tue Mar 19, 2013 2:27 am

Don't get me wrong, some bits of the Premier League were amazing and I'd love to be watching Wolves scrap against the best in the country again. We beat Man United, Chelsea, Man City and Spurs at home and Liverpool and Spurs away, we beat local rivals on the biggest stage, had some quality players and stayed up on the last day of the season. Everything else was miserable.

The refereeing, as billythefish alluded to, is unbelievably biased and you will notice a difference as soon as you kick off next season. Not just against the 'big' teams either. Established or fashionable clubs (Swansea/Fulham) will always get the run of the decisions against teams who are seen as cloggers or plucky upstarts (Wolves/Stoke/Wigan/Cardiff).

The 24 hour media bullshit is another thing. If you think that you're getting it in the neck for the re-brand right now just wait until next season. Every cockwomble up and down the country who manages to stay up late enough to see you wrap up the fixtures on MotD will be an expert on Cardiff City. If you're not a team that plays flowing passing football or if you have one or two players who like to put in a hard tackle, be prepared to have stuck up Fulham fans singing "Disgrace to the Premier League" etc, etc.

It will ruin your players as well. I was so proud of the Wolves side that went up. Hennessey, Foley, Stearman, Berra, Ward, Kightly, Henry, Jones, Jarvis, Iwelumo, Ebanks-Blake. A good, hard working, honest group of British and Irish lads who fought for the shirt, the manager and the fans. I imagine you feel something similar about the current Cardiff players. Now, I can't stand any of them (besides Iwelumo who we sold before he could disappoint us). Overpaid, overhyped, arrogant, smug, condescending, talentless ****wits. And that's putting it mildly. All they care about now is money.

TL;DR: The Premier League is evil.

EDIT: Oh, and Alan Shearer! Alan Shearer is a ****ing moron. Don't miss having to listen to his opinion on my club.

Interesting viewpoint. I'm sure fans of other clubs will sing the lremiership's praises though.. Which would give this article some balance.

Ones that do well I guess it's the greatest league in the world, for those that don't - far from it.

Not really. The championship hasn't been an awful place to be, in fact it's been great in my opinion. Players are usually hard working hungry pros, referees are rarely biased, inept maybe but not biased, most games are competitive every week, it's fairly affordable for most people every week, clubs aren't under the microscope of the national media, clubs aren't forced (although we did) to risk the future of their club just to compete.

The premier league is ruthless, the good clubs have a whale of a time and the fodder can be destroyed or severely ravaged (Pompey, Bolton, Birmingham, Wolves etc)

Is Paxman the new incarnation of Roath Magic? I'm not good at remembering.

Pointless exercise? Absolutely not. Promotion is much needed after all that's happened.

Although in balance to what has been sacrificed for it, it's hard to deem promotion alone a success. As for this thread it it showing that promotion can ravage any club, especially clubs going into it in the state we are.

Once we get there we have to do something otherwise to be honest, it probably will be a pointless exercise.

See through? I make no secret of my viewpoint.

The viewpoint held by most other football fans in the world cannot by definition be that of a troll. I assume you are using the word to insult rather than the literal meaning.

In fairness to the original post, there are some points worth noting in there. The Premier League has been great for the Swans as a club, but as a fan it leaves me a bit cold. Overhyped and sanitized football.
