A forum for all things Cardiff City
Mon Mar 18, 2013 12:08 pm
I noticed that Eddie May's son had requested to go to this game, as he supports Charlton and Cardiff City was a club that was close to his dad's heart, ironically he passed away on the 14th April 2012, so this game is closest to the 1st anniversary of that.
I understand he contacted the club, and at the time of writing this, have no idea whether something had been arranged for him.
but anyway, I'd like for the fans to make this charlton game...
"Eddie May Day"
and chant the famous "Barmy Army" chant throughout the game.
If his son is at the game with family etc, i think it'd be a nice show of respect from us as fans to his old man, from us as a fanbase for some of the best years of following city.
I don't know what anyone else thinks of this, but i think it'd be a nice gesture.
If by some chance the club haven't done something, perhaps we could have a whip round for a ticket for his son, although a charlton fan, he should be safe amongst the city fans after all he'd have grown up with us.

Just taken this from the CCMB
seems Eddie's son was shunned by Cardiff City.
http://www.ccmb.co.uk/fudforum/index.ph ... 2676&rid=0I am quite honestly embarrassed by this, is this what Cardiff City has become?

This is SHOCKING for feck sake Cardiff City sort it out

f*cking disgusting from the club, what have we let happen to what was once a great club
Mon Mar 18, 2013 1:53 pm
Would be great if we clinched promotion on this game for Eddie MAy

personally dont see why he should be given free tickets, however its a bit uncalled for to not let him into the bar imo, cant see that it would hurt.
Mon Mar 18, 2013 2:40 pm
He has said he's not after free tickets, he's quite happy as a visiting fan to pay his way, but he would like to have had a pre-match drink on the anniversary (well almost) of his dad's passing, he is going to visit the memorial garden where his father's ashes are scattered.
And as the bar is "The Eddie May Bar" it's a bit off that the club haven't simply allowed the fella use of it for his visit.

Completely wrong that he's not allowed to use the bar.

Did the club say no? Ok bit slow answering but ffs game is a month away! Why do people feel the need to rubbish the club at every opportunity? If nothing done fair enough but let's wait before slagging our club off!
Mon Mar 18, 2013 4:31 pm
The guy has sent an e-mail well in advance, he has said that he's not received any kind of response.
regardless of how long it is away, it's simple customer service.
I mean that's what we all are now isn't it? Customers!

Not hard to write a swift response saying that they would love him to have a drink at the bar names after his father and then go to the memorial garden.
There, I've just done it now!
City used to look after their own. Now, their only interested if you have a load of cash.

Whatever! point still stands any excuse to slag off current owner! And why didn't he approach club? Easier to do than your simplistic attitude? Any 3rd party involvement causes delays!

Some so called fans engineer many so called facts so they can attack the club at any given opportunity. Mainly from the same old anti VT section.
I'd rather wait for facts.
Just a thought.....did the club do something when Eddie passed away?

Hi Guys thanks for the very humbling posts below but I just thought that I would come on and set the record straight.
Firstly as I said on the other forum from the outset I have never requested free tickets from anybody, I have paid my way around the Championship following Charlton this season and will continue to do so. I contacted the club myself a couple of weeks ago because when they had the minute's applause for Dad against Leeds last season I spoke to representatives of the club at length about my Cardiff and Charlton connections and was told to contact the club should both teams meet this season and I intended coming to the game.
To my surprise having done that I have been ignored which is fine that isn't a problem, it's been a year now nearly and a lot of football has been played since but what has also happened since then is the club naming a bar in my Dad's name. They never told us that at the time, I have found this out recently second hand which I found very disappointing.
Having decided to come down for the game and to visit the Memorial Garden where Dad's ashes are I have since asked the club if we could visit the bar in his name just to feel proud of his association with such a great club one last time but again I have heard nothing back.
In terms of the tickets, the response has been overwhelming, I have had fans offering me there's which is on another level as far as generosity and our appreciation is concern but as I said it has never been about free tickets, all I wanted to know was what the £55 Premier Club ticket includes as opposed to the normal £23 lower tier tickets? Charlton are selling them now for £21 and the easiest thing in the world to do would be to purchase them from The Valley but just like Beckham has always explained that he would never join a Premier League club because he doesn't want to play against Man Utd, I don't want to sit cheering my team on against the club who meant so much to Dad and still do to me. Yes they have disappointed me to an extent that I never expected but as I said at the start perhaps as a club they have moved on from the 90's much quicker than I have.
The very first post on this thread I found very emotional and if it could be possible to have an Eddie May day at this game it would be something very very special, hearing his name called out again around the stadium against his former club would give me an overwhelming feeling of pride. If the Eddie May day gathers steam please let me know on:
reamsofverse@gmail.comI am grateful that I have had the opportunity to put the record straight because the last thing I wanted was to come across as wanting something for nothing which is not the case.
Regards
Paul

Welcome to the board Paul. Your father was and still is a legend in this part of the woods.
Im pretty sure someone from the club will be in contact soon.
I find it disgusting they named a bar after him without even telling the family, thats just plain rude.
Eddie May Barmy Army !!

I am sorry to hear this has happened I feel embarrassed by this neglect and I am sure if the right people where contacted at the club then all would go through smoothly.Your Dad is a legend to city fans and an Eddie May day would be fitting for Eddie on the anniversary of his death .I would suggest you contact the relevant people at the club because I am sure when they no the circumstance they would be more than willing to help you.
The fact they havent so far is embarrassing to say the least.I hope you manage to sort it out and I hope you have a great day with us .Those great years with EDDIE MAY will always stay in my memory all the best to you and good luck.
