Sam our away support numbers wise is shocking especially this year when we are top of the league.I know we are in a recession but yourselves,Leeds,Forest etc travel in big big numbers every week so we cant use that as an excuse.

They didn't travel in big big numbers to us?

I'll be the first to admit we aren't a big club, compared to other clubs who have had much more successful times, I'm sorry but I hate it when our own fans slate our support.

At the end of the day, big supports don't win games, the players do. I went yesterday and I saw my team make one step closer to the Premier League whilst 23k people witnessed their team lose whilst down near the relegation zone.

Leeds, Forest etc have a lot of away games closer than us. We are down south and have to travel many more miles than the majority of away fans in our division. But I still think the main reason is the rebrand has had an effect on a lot of our die hards travelling away. I believe we would have taken around 3,000 to Sheffield if we wasn't rebranded.

You could tell the players appreciated us with the way they came over to us at the end and Fraizer even clapped us during the game. :ayatollah:

Exactly. Do people realise that Forest are European Cup winners? That Leeds were a top 4 PL team not long ago.. Not to mention how Northern the Championship really is, no doubt if we get promoted our away support will rocket, considering there will be more attractive places to go.

Look at that map, it's ages away for us, Bristol and Brighton

I don't class the rebrand has an excuse for a poor away following,You are top of the league and on the verge of going into the Premiership and in my opinion if you don't do it this season you never will,so you should sell out all you away games no excuse! :old:

Exactly, both manager and players know it's always tough for us to make games as we're further away than a lot of teams, I love the fact they appreciate our support, sometimes teams take big supports to grounds and they never get appreciated by players :ayatollah:

What a load of bollocks, Our away suppport on the whole has always been distinctly average bar the few glamour games.

Plymouth have always taken more away than us and look how far they have to travel week in week out.Blaming distance is a poor excuse.

That's not bollocks. I felt for about 5 opening minutes your lot were good, after that not much noise came from you.

You need your head checked if you think that's bad. It's a long way to go, just because we're top, doesn't mean we have to sell out every game. 1400 is 500 more than you brought to us

Sorry i must be thinking on how much you slag the away following of Wales no1 team Swansea! They have 50 miles more than you to get to a game and pay twice as much because they are a premiership club but then again that's how it goes! ;) And on that note i bid you farewell! Nos Da! ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: AWAY SUPPORT!!!

They brought 1,000 to us. Not great.

Re: AWAY SUPPORT!!!

Sun Mar 17, 2013 8:57 pm

Talking about noise, home attendance and away and who's a 'big club' you're as bad as Cardiff fans talking about Swansea.

Hull, Burnley, Wigan, Blackpool, Swansea all garnered less support than Cardiff (in the Championship) yet had their 'time in the sun' at the top. Cardiff are way over due. Overall support has nothing to do with anything. Poor persons retort.

I wouldn't call taking over 4,000 to Reading a glamour game? Reading is what we consider a "local" trip, yet it's still a lot further than the distances Sheffield Wednesday fans would have to travel for quite a few of their games. I saw a signpost for Leeds for example which said 29 miles when we approached Sheffield, a lot shorter than between us and Swansea. We have also taken huge followings to the majority of grounds in our division, particilarly when we first got into the Championship. The difference this season is we have been in the Championship for 10 seasons, the novelty of visiting the same grounds over and over again is wearing off and the rebrand has also put off a lot of fans from giving up their own time and money travelling to a ground they have visited a few times before.
