Jimmy Saville Chant.

Sun Mar 17, 2013 2:17 pm

Reading this message board this morning, poses a question for me;

1; is it O-Kay to chant it to Joe Allen but not Dave Jones (maybe because its a bit close to the knuckle)

2; how do people feel about the Hymns and Arias chant.

1) Depends what was chanted and why?

2) no

The Joe Allen one is totally pointless. He doesn't even play for Swansea anymore...

Hymns and arias is a rugby song and hate the fact a jacks use it.

I can't understand why people would want to sing songs about that subject in the first place.

No doubt people will say it's "banter" or "just a football chant"

but let's be honest, it's not.

I find it quite embarrassing that people would want to sing that sort of stuff, and have to question their mindset.

Don't get me wrong, there are some witty chants up and down the country about subjects that sometimes may cause offense, but songs about a paedophile is not something I feel should be sung anywhere never mind at a football ground.

1: It is NEVER ok to chant such bile when nothing has been proven (or in instances even alledged)

2: Hymns and Arias is predominantly a Wales Rugby song and is indicative of the way that sychophant egg-chasers from the Swansea are have jumped on the ONLY bandwagon of success to come out of that area sine Bonnie Tyler got lost (and subsequently found again) in France

BOTH are unecessary in a football arena ;)

1. Dave Jones had to listen to some disgusting filth over the years, which was way out of order. The case against him collapsed, and was proven to be false. His book 'No Smoke, No Fire' is well worth a read, and describes what he had to go through. Whatever opinions there may be regarding Jonesey's footballing career, nobody deserves the sort of abuse he had.

The same applies to Joe Allen, or any other footballer. Whether he plays for Swansea or anybody else, he does not deserve the Jimmy Saville chants. Franky, they are cringeworthy, the very worst type of schoolboy humour.

I'm not saying that we can never give opposition players a bit of stick. For example, Marlon King got some stick when BCFC were down here start of the season. But it's a thin line.

2. If you mean the 'you JBs version', then as above. The original, and the tune, are egg-chaser songs, and have no place in football, especially not at CCFC.

Excellent reply; particularly the bit about 'schoolboy humour' and that, I'm afraid is where a large part of the problem lies; adoloescents allowed out into the big wide world largely unsupervised for the first time in their short lives and out of control of their senses through drink (and other paraphinalia) adopting a mob mentality unchecked and unchallenged

Some really good replies, I would love to have the views of the Annis's and Carl's of this board.

I was just thinking about when Bellamy went over and made them welsh fans take the anti GB flag down, maybe it's time for the Leaders to lead a bit if that's how fans feel about certain chants..

Spot on. Uneducated idiots. No place for it in life, just because its inside the ground doesn't mean it's any different. Our club doesn't need them.

cringe worthy to be honest, why would supposedly football fans want to chant anything about paedophiles, what the f**k has Joe Allen got to do with that pathetic chant, he don't play for Swansea anymore, we don't play Swansea until next season :D he plays for Wales and should be respected like all the other Welsh players no matter what team they play for.
That DJ/Jimmy Saville chant last Saturday was shocking to be honest, especially after what Dave Jones went through with all the allegations against him, no room for that kind of stuff in football no matter who they are.
As somebody said, it's these type of fans that let this great club down.

Im as up for banter as the next person but the Jimmy Saville chants are in poor taste. At the end of the day Saville was a serious sex offender,i dont see ay humour in that
I joined in the "jonesy whats the score" chants on saturday,he is fair game for that after his recent seemingly bitter outbursrts against Cardiff.I drew the line at that though
