A Scouts report on Cardiff City - Peter Whittingham

Sat Mar 16, 2013 1:29 pm

My mates dad works as a scout for Championship club.
He often watches our home matches if he has no club commitments.
Part of his role is to do dossiers on teams, looking at team formations, set pieces, plan b's etc.
His dossier on Cardiff City is not a great read if you are a Cardiff City fan.

I read one of his reports on Wednesday and was amazed at some of the content.
I promised him I wouldn't use word for word when relaying his report so as not to alert his club.

His main topic was on stopping Whitts.
He was amazed that Malky has decided to play Whitts so deep as in his opinion..........which is the same as most of the people on here is that Whitts is completely wasted playing so deep.
By playing him so deep he is completely nullifying the threat Whitts poses.
This allows teams to control the game by closing Whitts down as soon as he gets the ball, by doing so he very rarely passes the ball forward. 80% of his passes this season have either gone backwards or sideways.
That is the reason why we have lost the midfield battle for most of the games this season.
We lack the killer ball.
This also allows the oppositions defence to play higher up the field, making the midfield areas far more congested, thus taking away our strengths, resulting in us playing that long straight ball to our small attackers, which is easily won by 6 foot odd tall defenders, and because of us being outnumbered in midfield we then us lose the second ball.

He says his left foot is like a wand and was his strength last season.
Close his left foot down and thats him finished.
He was dominating games and scoring goals, and more often than not producing the killer pass by playing in a more attacking role.
Defences used to be scared to death when Whitts was moving forward...........now they haven't a worry as he is no longer an issue.
He also says that when talking to other scouts they are amazed that Malky is persisting with using Whitts so deep.

In a word..........stop Whittingham and you stop Cardiff!
This is how vital he is to us and the main reason we have been found out this season.

Some one have a word in Malkay`s ear then and give him some advice on pushing him forward. Maybe todays game will be a change? :ayatollah:

I would say he's fairly much spot on with everything said. Let's hope Malky isn't too stubborn to change it as it will be admitting he was wrong. Don't 100% agree with stop Whitts stop Cardiff...we got a lot of good players in the squad. :ayatollah:

You couldn't make this up!!

We are top of the league with a game in hand, ffs! God help if we hadn't been found out, we would be 30 points clear

It makes sense what you say and does seem so obvious, I would imagine that Malky knows this but does not have a suitable replacement for Whitts, and does not want to change the formation, up till now?

Maybe he will switch over the rest of the season, and change things around, who knows?

One thing is for sure Malky is no fool and we are top of the league with a game in hand, so lets leave it up to him to decide how to play Whits and not some no mark scout. :malky: :malky: :malky:
