Fans want more details on rebranding plans

Fri Mar 15, 2013 5:21 am

Cardiff City fans have sent the club a clear message that they want more information on its future rebranding plans, according to results of a Supporters’ Trust survey.

In a poll of almost 700 supporters, 83% of respondents urged the Trust to focus on getting more information on the club’s future plans.

The Trust said it was “disappointed” its last meeting with the club chairman came more than two years ago and supporters said there was “unease” over their treatment.

But the Echo understands Vincent Tan has now agreed to meet supporters groups at the end of the season.

The survey, which canvassed opinion of both members and non-members, revealed more than half (60%) believed the Trust should actively oppose the controversial rebranding and showed 70% wanted the Trust to lobby the club for a compromise kit.

More than a quarter (26.5%) said they disagreed with, but accepted, the rebrand, while 15% said they outright supported it.

Tim Hartley, chairman of Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, said: “The results show clearly that ordinary fans want a proper dialogue with the club.

“Shareholders in the club, which include the Trust, have also not been consulted.”

Results of the survey will be presented to Trust members and reviewed by its board at a future meeting, while it has offered to present its findings to the club.

Vince Alm, of Cardiff City Supporters Club, said: “83%, I would go along with that. People are concerned with more rebranding and there’s a lot of rumour that needs to be dispelled. From the club’s point of view, they don’t want too much information going out about non-football related matters. We have been given the opportunity at the end of the season to meet Vincent Tan.”

A club spokesman said: “Cardiff City Football Club remains committed to an ongoing positive dialogue with supporters and has scheduled a meeting with Tan Sri Vincent Tan, club officials and representatives from the Cardiff City Supporters Club and Trust at the end of the season. But for the present day and until the final whistle of the final game, our collective focus and attention is on supporting the team in the best way possible.”

I would fall into the 26.5% who oppose the rebrand but accept it for the future good of the club.

This is the kind of thing the Trust should have been doing since it was first set up in 2007/8. The Trust Board finally understands that it has to firstly find the views of its members (rather than their own personal view) and act on it. If that 'action' means being a pain in the arse then so be it.

So I have nothing but praise for the way they are carrying out their responsibilities to their members. Also in another unprecedented act of praise I would also point out despite the bluster of the defunct KCB and various other keyboard warriors, the Trust appears to be the only supporters who are actually getting off their arses and attempted to do something about the rebranding issue.

10/10 so far.

Until they have an offical SEASON TICKET HOLDERS poll (not a few supporters who think they represent 20,000)
or whoever wears a free Red Scarf

real Poll
Q1- Blue or Red shirt
Q2- Bluebird or Dragon badge

this 75% VT says are in favour of rebrand, I don`t believe its all fantasy.

But to be done end of season, need to back the team now last 10 games. :malky:

The Trust , and some members of the CCSC committee , have been asking the club since May of last year when the rebranding was first officially announced to carry out such a poll. The club have continuously declined to do so.

I personally doubt if they will do so at the end of the season either , even though by then season tickets will already have been sold and the kit for 2013/14 already registered .
It will be a bit like electing your local politician now on the basis of promises he makes , he gets elected , reneges on the promises with some feeble excuses and says "if you don`t like it , you can vote me out in 4 or 5 years" - i.e. have a say but after I have already made sure you can`t undo anything I have already done for some time.

As for backing the team on the pitch , I always have and always will. But I don`t see that questionning the actions of the board and their master conflict with this in any way.

Do you have to have been at the Brighton game to validate your opinion then?

20K season ticket holders and they send me e-mails about buying tickets every other day, how about an official poll ? It beats the free scarf and a chance to win a season ticket farce.

Yawn .... sorry I almost nodded off there ! Surely Tin-Pot Tan's disdain for the fans has already highlighted the nature of this guy . It's less dialogue we need ... and a more pro-active stance . The major difference I noted between the BHA & LC games was the abundance of red in the former & the lack of it in the latter! This guy aint interested in listening to the fans . Why should he ? TAN OUT !

0.03 to equate as 700 would be *33 to get 1% as a rounded figure.

700 * 3 = 21,300

To get 100% we times the 1% by 100 and that leaves us with 2,130,000.

0.03% of 2,310,000 is 693 due to the rounding to 1 from 0.99.

Apparently our registered fan base is 2 million + :laughing6:
