To score the decisive away goal. Is this fair? I think it's a shocking rule to be honest. The game was even after the two 90 minute games finishing 3-0 each. To avoid the unfair added advantage of the away team having an extra half hour of extra time to score the away goal, surely they should not allow away goals to count when it goes to extra time?

Was the same for Palace in the Carling Cup semis.
It's an awful rule.

why does it exist?

Think of it the opposite way, home side gets an extra 30mins on home turf. I agree with your point, but it is slightly balanced.

you could say why should the home team in the second leg have home advantage for the extra 30mins? They had 120 mins of being a home team to spurs 90. Is that fair?

I agree one outweighs the other in my opinion

My view is that after 180 mins and an equal 90 mins home and away if the match is a draw and away goals are the same (so same score home and away) then the game should go straight to pens. No arguments of extra 30 mins on home soil or extra 30 mins to get away goal then.
