Cardiff face a defensive crisis

Cardiff face a defensive crisis as they attempt to keep their Premier League promotion bid on track.

Captain Mark Hudson and centre-back partner Ben Turner could both be out of the side’s Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, forcing Malky Mackay into an unfamiliar backline.

Hudson hobbled off with an ankle injury during the 1-1 draw with Leicester and Turner picked up an ankle problem in training prior to the game.

Cardiff finished the match, in which they scored a 93rd-minute equaliser, with right-back Matthew Connolly and 20-year-old Ben Nugent in central defence and the same line-up could be used at Hillsborough.

Hudson had only just returned to the team after two weeks out following an ankle injury against Wolves last month.

Manager Mackay said: ‘Mark took a separate knock to his other ankle. He saw himself through the rest of the first half, but he really couldn’t continue after half-time. It’s an injury we will assess, but it is a short-term one. I would suggest that there is a good possibility he is a doubt for Saturday. Beyond that we have a two-week international break and he will be fit after that. Unfortunately, Ben rolled his ankle in training. It’s bad luck. He will be touch and go for the weekend. It’s not easy to keep chopping and changing the back four. It’s difficult, but it is needs must at the minute. Kevin McNaughton was excellent when he came on at right-back in the second half against Leicester and the other lads are doing well. We just have to get on with it.’

Too true - just get on with it.

Even Man Utd have had Carrick at centre half so it happens to tithe best of them (managers I mean).
