Are clubs successful because they keep their managers or are managers kept because they are successful?

If Davey Moyes worked for one of these foreign clowns who havent got a clue about football he would have been sacked years ago.

Does my f*cking head in hearing football described by the men in suits as a brand or a product.

There are certainly occasions where that is the case, but also cases where managers stay on for too long.

Moyes was put up as an example of a successful manager. But no trophies in 10 years for a club like Everton. Is that really success? Same as Wenger for Arsenal, no trophies in 8 years.

Success is relative to each individual club of course.

The problem with the big clubs, they all expect trophies and they seem to nowadays chase only for the two big ones Premier and League Championship and as we have seen it rarely goes to many different clubs. To me being being in the top 4 or even 6 is success in its self.

Re: The Premier League can be a lethal place for

Football is a cut throat business and the sacking of some managers is unjustified,In Mcdermott's case the players played for him he has been at the club a long time and knows the club inside out and you cant replace that.

I thought he had done well with what he has had in terms of players and budget.

What will Reading get out of this so late in the season you have to ask is it the right move for Reading I dont think so.

It makes you wonder what will happen to us if we go up.

For me, the fact that Michael Laudrup has won more trophies in 8 months than Wenger has, with all the assets at his disposal, in 8 years (or Moyes in 10 years) is a damning indictment.

As fans, surely we won't to see our club winning trophies rather than just being content with finishing in the top 4 or 6?

CCFC fans still bang on about 1927 after all. How often in comparison is finishing 2nd in the league mentioned?

NJ,
I agree, we all want trophies, but owners/managers of the big clubs have been putting everything in to getting those two trophies and your right that could be their down fall as youve just pointed out uve achieved more in 2 yrs than some of them.

Have a look at Italian club PALERMO in Italy's top division - their about to get theie 4th coach this season :o

PALERMO, Sicily (AP) -- Gian Piero Gasperini has rescinded his contract with Palermo, opening the way for Giuseppe Sannino's possible return and the fourth coaching change for the last-place Sicilian club this season.

Palermo now has more coaching changes than wins this season (three).

Sannino was replaced by Gasperini in September, Alberto Malesani was hired at the beginning of February, then Gasperini returned two weeks ago.

Gasperini's latest spell lasted just two matches, a 0-0 draw at Torino then a 2-1 loss at home to direct relegation rival Siena on Sunday.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has made about 35 firings and had 43 different managers in a quarter century, first at Venezia from 1987-2002 then at Palermo.

It's the 13th coaching change in Serie A this season.

Palermo is tied for last with Pescara.

That is madness how do they expect to get any consistency going with so many coaches.Chelsea are in my opinion a club that have made themselves a no go zone for managers because of a high turn over in managers and good managers have been sacked there so who the hell would want to go there knowing in 6 months they are going to be the next sack victim .
Football is nuts but some clubs are worse than others and Chelsea is an example of a nutty club.

SAF always says hinself that clubs are too quick to sack managers when they should have a bit of faith.
He admits himself tat if Manure had been like that then today no one would even remember who he was.

Re: The Premier League can be a lethal place for

A lot of "top clubs" dont he'lp themselves by treating the league cup as a blooding chance. It's a major trophy, and most players finish without a trophy in their career or a game at wembley.

This should be taken more seriously. Arsenal, Everton, spurs, Liverpool, etc could all do with winning this cup and adding to the silverware room.

I'd personally rather see city win trophies and yo-yo Back and forth the prem with malky then settle for mid table or become another Fulham etc. they start each season knowing they can't win anything and safety is a success. Where's the excitement in that?

Agree. Lost the plot then. Disgraceful attitude and one of the worst experiences of my life (football wise) watching the game and the attitude afterwards (especially DJ and McPhail).

Not a dig or anything, but don't think Malky Mackay's job is completely safe. He certainly has his critics amongst you, god knows why, but if things weren't to go well at the end of this season or next season I'd be surprised if your owners keep faith in him.

I agree. If we get promoted and we're in the relegation zone in December I reckon he'll be gone.
