Fri Mar 08, 2013 1:30 am
So rebrand them? The hypocrisy
Fri Mar 08, 2013 8:16 am
Barry Bluebirds does have a nice ring to it.
Fri Mar 08, 2013 8:18 am
I wonder what the new crest would look like. A Bluebird flying over a Fruit machine with a chip in its mouth

The hypocrisy of changing a club with its own long and storied history would make you no better than Tan.
And any new Cardiff City club would have to play in Cardiff anyway, surely.
It's a non-starter.

Stuart Lovering and in my experience he is impossible to deal with.
Fri Mar 08, 2013 9:54 am
Stewart Lovering is the current owner, he is a cock. He's collapsed deals in the past but now he wants out. The only snag is that theres only a 10year lease left and for the least to renewed the football team has to be run properly, unlike it has been of late! The social club is/can be a nice earner. If it wasn't for the long serving landlord it would be closed.
Barry Town used to have a very good connection with Cardiff but due to shit owners past and present it aint no more.

The Barry Town team is run entirely independently of Stuart Lovering by the BTSC - the Supporters Committee who manage and fund everything to do with the football side.
They do an amazing job, considering they have to put up with the owner - who only a few months ago threatened to withdraw them from the league (just before their 100th anniversary celebration -which our recent chairman TG attended by the way).

The club as in 'social club' was what I was wanting and still am tbh.

That clubhouse was built to support Barry Town football. It's a travesty that it's been used for profit instead in recent years. And I believe the council have had enough of people bleeding the facility dry for their own bank balance - hence no new lease for anyone whose goal is less than altruistic.
Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:34 am
Best of luck then, but I doubt you will ever get anywhere with this owner. He's been threatening to sell every year for the last six or seven, either hugely overestimates the value or fails to deal properly with anyone interested.
Just thought it should be pointed out that the football side of things is run heroically by fans/community volunteers.

My ol' man was Chairman of the Barry Town Supporters Club.
Can hear him turning in his grave!
And Neil O'Halloran for that matter.
Shameful what has been allowed to happen at Barry Town.

Completely shameful in my opinion. For the amount of wealth within the whole of 'The Vale of Glamorgan' Its shocking that they don't even have a good non-league team!!!

Didn't Barry town FC receive financial support from the then local Labour council at the height of their on field success in the 90's?
Fri Mar 08, 2013 4:47 pm
They did indeed, Wales very own answer to Real Madrid lol

I'd say many local councils help out their clubs because it's part of their community.. many of them pay peppercorn rent

The ground is owned by the people of Barry but the council took responsibility for it on their behalf. I'm told that Stuart Lovering is an absolute knob. My mates old man knows anything and everything about Barry town and Barry fc, the club that was set up after a falling out with Lovering. I'm not sure if Barry fc is still going or if they've gone back in with Barry town.
