" Cardiff City are 'feeling the pressure' says veteran striker Kevin Phillips "

Kevin Phillips thinks Crystal Palace are going up

Veteran goals-ace Kevin Phillips says Championship leaders Cardiff City are ‘starting to feel the pressure’ as the chasing pack mount their Premier League push.

The evergreen Crystal Palace striker, who scored a midweek hat-trick as the Eagles won 4-2 against fellow promotion challengers Hull City, still expects the Bluebirds to win the league but insists: “Anything is possible.

“Drawing at home against Derby will be a bit of a blow to them so maybe they are starting to feel the pressure a little bit.”

And with Malky Mackay's men out of action this weekend, opportunity knocks for the chasing pack as Watford and Palace have home matches against Blackpool and Leeds.

Looking at his own team, who were Cardiff’s main challengers at Christmas time before suffering a dip in form, the 39-year-old former Sunderland star said: “All we can do is concentrate on our own game. Three points on Tuesday was huge for us. It draws us closer to them, it puts pressure Hull, Watford and Cardiff as well as the teams below us.

“I think we’ve certainly sent a message out to the Championship.”

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman echoed Phillips' claim that the Championship title race is far from over, saying: "The chasing pack will have written Cardiff off but their gap was at double figures and in now shrinking.

"The others will feel if they can reel Cardiff in it will be a bonus.

"But Cardiff will know there are three teams below them now all in very good form."

In a message to his manager Ian Holloway, the man who has scored five goals in his seven games on loan at Selhurst Park so far this season, said: "From a personal point of view, I'm delighted to have started the game.

"It wasn't the perfect hat-trick but at the end of the day it's three goals and I'm absolutely delighted."

Keen to regualarly join up with an attack that already boasts the Championship's top scorer Glenn Murray, fellow loanee Wilfred Zaha, who will join up with his Manchester United team mates next season and French flier Yannick Bolasie, Phillips said: "It just convinces me that I'm fit enough to start games in the Championship."

The striker who turns 40 in July also praised Welsh star Ryan Giggs for playing his 1,000th senior match against Real Madrid on Tuesday but vowed to outlast the Manchester United man.

Phillips said: "Ryan signing a new deal will probably force my hand now. I know I'm four months older than him but I'd like to be the oldest outfield player in the country."

MALKY IF YOU NEED TO MOTIVATE YOUR SQUAD PUT THIS IN BOTH CHANGING ROOMS AT HENSOL AND CCS STADIUM. IF THIS DOESN'T GET THEM UP FOR THE RUN IN NOTHING WILL.

Cheers Kevin. Do employees at Crystal Palace never learn?

Kevin Phillips has a mini Indian Summer and suddenly his team are world beaters!!

If you look at (and read) Palarses recent 'wins' they are littered with fortunate goals and dubious penalties (with Murray being the undisputed 'dive' king)

Cardiff City for promotion and (for me) Inter Watford for second ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'd honestly rather we lost the promotion chase, stayed here and went back to being the bluebirds :(

Wow thats how it'll work.

We'd probably stay in the championship. Tan would cut the transfer fund. He'd change the name. Then leave when we don't go up.

He's right to be fair,we've slipped completely out of form and who knows where the impetus is coming from.

Hudson must play the next 11 games.

We need 6 wins and it's hard to see where they are coming from. Whitts looks like he's forgotten how to play football and the deth has depleted. A loss V Leicester and the lead is gone.

Malky should have got a midfielder and another defender in Jan. his stubbornness in the window has cost us.

Jesus Christ, I would hate to be stuck in the trenches with half of you lot.

Mr Philips would you like to be 5 points clear with a game in hand ?

Totally agree with you, phillips should first of all have a look at palaces remaining fixtures, (i think they are very tough) as for us, 5 wins and 2 draws = 88 points, the other three teams would then have to win 8 out of 10 of their remaining games which wont happen, as i said 88 points and we are there :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
