Cardiff Dragons and Cardiff City Dragons names registered

Two companies called Cardiff Dragons Football Club Limited and Cardiff City Dragons have been registered with Companies House.

The registration of the name Cardiff Dragons Football Club Limited was made on Tuesday by a businessman who insisted on remaining anonymous while Cardiff City Dragons has today emerged as a new registered name.

However, neither have links with the Championship leaders.

The businessman who set up the Cardiff Dragons Football Club Limited said: “Obviously there was all the rumours they were going to start a new name so, as I’m a bit of an entrepreneur, I thought ’well, if they’re going to do that then I’ll get the registered name, the company name, for that and if they wanted it they can have it off me’.

“I’ve got a few mates who are Cardiff fans but other than that I’ve got no involvement with the club at all. It’s a bit of a laugh, it’s a bit of joke to be honest.

“I’ve done it as half a laugh and half actually if they want that company name in the future then they can have it off me.”

A spokesman for the Bluebirds also confirmed the registration of Cardiff Dragons Football Club has nothing to do with the club and any speculation is unwarranted and incorrect.

Cardiff owner Tan Sri Vincent Tan released a statement last Thursday assuring fans he is not considering renaming the club.

“I can assure all supporters that we will not be changing our name from Cardiff City Football Club, a club I am very proud to be a part of,” he said.

“Our name is our identity and remains at our core. I would not want any of our supporters to be concerned that this change would be made, hoping that this personal commitment from myself removes any fears.”

Meanwhile, chief executive Simon Lim has been appointed interim chairman at Cardiff City after Dato Chan Tien Ghee left his post due to business commitments.

It's just people registering the names after all of this nonsense so if he does want to make our name Cardiff Dragons etc. then he'll have to buy it off them.
