" 11 point cushion...... "

Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:25 am

Many of us are cursing the fact that our 11 point cushion has reduced. However, the fact that we have such a cushion, is a tribute to the effort that has been put when it was needed to.

Our Management, Staff and Players have created a situation whereby they have got points in the bag and, if a slight dip in form does hit us, then it will not be fatal to our ambitions.

I was initially worried and then I used the BBC Prediction tool. I am a naturally cautious person and gave us draws where I felt we may not win and I came to the conclusion that we would hit 89 points with 3 games remaining - and 6 points ahead of 2nd place.

The point I am making is that there are no special prizes for winning the league by 11 points. In fact if we finish 2nd I personally wouldnt care.

Sides around us have to play each other and I personally think we will win the league, with comparative ease, even if we lose a few games in the process.

By coincidence I have also just been listening to "I want to break free"

- a subtle escape from the Championship maybe?

I have been arguing this point so much I have given up on the brain dead.

Yes the gap has been closed somewhat but other teams such as Watford & Hull have played more games than us in the period that it has been reduced.

There are 11 games to go and weve got a 3 game cushion. We have to lose 3 game and Hull win all their 10 to take over us. Goal difference depending.

Then for every one Hull / Palace lose in their 10 remaining games then thats another game we can afford to lose.

Im still confident we have enough of a cushion to see us through.

And what points would you have given us against derby, Brighton and boro?

Re: " 11 point cushion...... "

How many points would you said we would have had over Christmas against Leicester, palace, mill wall and birmingham.

The points are on the board, 88 points and we will be there

In my opinion it is any 2 from 4 to go up

Cardiff
Watford
Hull
C.Palace

What are the likely points for the other teams?

How many points would get us into 2nd place?

We still need to take every game as it comes but the other teams would happily swap place with us!

Comparing other seasons I think 86 points will be enough this season for promotion.

5 more wins. :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky:

Of course they would swap with us but for how long? Watford and Palace are playing a lot better than we are and not looking likely to drop many points

What does make me a little nervous is that those games the club has in hand are not till April. The gap could easily be down to nothing putting more pressure on the players. The perception will be that Cardiff, who had the 11 point lead, has lost it all, even if we all know in our head that there are 6 points out there to grab. Worried that the club will begin to press and then it could get away. When I did the predictor there were two spots on the calender where Cardiff dipped below Watford.....All that said, not too worried though... :ayatollah:

Just done predictor Cardiff 1st 91pts,Watford 2nd 89pts but we did go behind by 2pts at one stage and on last game of season both won.

Let's not get nervous as fans as this would be fatal - just make sure we support the boys on the pitch and lets chalk off the wins.

From what I can gather, you lot are already nervous

For what it's worth, I think you're up. No harm in you all suffering a bit along the way though

Suffering? If there is a word to describe it, it's more than suffering.

If we lose every game from here on it hull and Watford would only need to win 2 remaining games to overhaul us.

Your odd way of looking at matches is that they have already been won and any ones that don't turn into wins are points dropped. We DO NOT have a 3 game cushion it is a 2 game cushion.

We can have 12 games in hand and it will still be a 2 game cushion if we are 3-6 points ahead.

The games in hand results are undetermined and worth zero points until after they are played.

Its not difficult its simple mathmatics.

Put the Jack troll above you on ignore will help you see more clearly too

He likes to muddy the waters and doesnt deal in facts.

Re: " 11 point cushion...... "

No muddying needed. The fact is a club 5 or 6 points behind is 2 games worth of points away from overtaking us. We would then be chasing them.

Basic maths. You would only be correct if 3 points were awarded prior to the match and are then ours to lose, which isn't the case. No matches have pre determined outcomes and are worth 0 points until played.

As it stands Hull and Watford only need to win two more games than us for us to be in the play offs come seasons end.
