Ben Turner “ But we must play better as a team against Leicester if we expect to win.”

“We didn’t win enough second balls throughout the team – and probably not enough first balls. The result was that we didn’t win.

BEN Turner reflected on Cardiff City’s worst spell of results this season and insisted: “Every player is confident we have what it takes to finish the job.”

“ But we must play better as a team against Leicester if we expect to win.”

Tuesday night’s disappointing home draw with Derby means the Bluebirds have earned only one win from their last four Championship fixtures.

Malky Mackay’s men are still five points clear at the top, but the gap has been significantly reduced in the last few weeks.

City have Watford, Hull and Crystal Palace on their tail and know they need to win their next match, against Leicester at home on Tuesday, to keep ahead of the trailing pack.

Turner, 24, expects to be back next to captain and experienced centre-back Mark Hudson when the Foxes visit Cardiff City Stadium, while Craig Bellamy also looks certain to be available.

Each were missed during the 1-1 draw against Derby and Turner said: “We haven’t really had a period when we have struggled for results.

“This has been our worst block of four. Every time, after a defeat, we’ve bounced back with a win and that’s credit to the players and staff here.

“This time, after a defeat at Middlesbrough, we’ve responded with a draw and that’s not what we wanted.

“We weren’t at our best on any level. It’s hard to say why, but we didn’t pass as well as we could and let our moves break down through sloppy passing.

“We didn’t win as many second balls as Derby in the first half. We did get on the front foot more as the game wore on, but didn’t really play fluid football.

“People will analyse the fact that we’ve earned one win in four, but over the season we are the best team so far.

“Form will go up and down, but we have to put it right and have a positive run-in.

“We have a weekend off to freshen up the legs, while we will have one or two bodies back in the squad. It’s up to us to go again.

“Over the season everybody in our dressing room is confident we have what it takes to achieve what we are aiming for.” City are without a Championship fixture this weekend because scheduled opponents Barnsley are in FA Cup action against Manchester City.

But their lead at the top is such that they will still be number one going into the home clash with Leicester.

“We played poorly as a team on the day. Derby were high tempo, their work-rate and effort kind of stifled us,” continued Turner.

“We went out with the right attitude, but we weren’t at our best and that’s why we drew. We gave away passes where usually we wouldn’t.

“That stopped us and gave Derby the chance to counter on us.

“We didn’t win enough second balls throughout the team – and probably not enough first balls. The result was that we didn’t win.

“But we are in a positive position with three-quarters of the season gone.

Totally agree Tuesday's game was poor players looked nervous and the crowd picked up on it. Ok the atmosphere is not great at the best of times but if the team show it the fans will show it too.

Bypassing the midfield with long hopeful balls will not work and did not work in this game. I still believe in Malky and the team but we need to improve all over the pitch. Their goal was a catalogue of errors. If we went up playing football like that we wouldn't get a point and more importantly the Jacks would murder us. Its about time the board woke up to the fact that we want a team playing football on the ground and taking teams to the cleaners.

Ok rant over this is the first time in many months the boys have gone into their shell but I feel confident in them getting over the finish line. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky:
