Some people may criticise me for asking these questions but I would like to see what others opinions are:
I am no football manager, just a loyal Cardiff City fan. What is baffling me at the moment is:
1) Why does MM persist with Whitts at the moment, he is far from his best form and hasn't scored in a long, long time. Can't really remember when one of his free kicks really troubled a keeper. OK MM may be playing him deeper, but if he has no confidence in his bench to fill that role and let Whitts go further forward in a role he is much more suited why hasn't he dipped into the loan market?
2) He goes out on a limb to get Noone into the squad and limits his game time, Noone showed what he can do when he come on last night (far too late IMO). He needs to start him against Leicester.
3) The warning signs have been there for a good while now, we have not played well for 75% of the season (again that's just my opinion). We are not clinical enough in front of goal and I know that this league is arguably the maddest league in football in terms of results, but other teams seem to be putting 3 or 4 past teams that we are only able to sneek a 1-0 win against.
4) We needed a win last night not just to consolidate our position but for our own confidence and to put doubt in the chasing pack. My question here is why did he leave it until 72nd minute to make changes, when clearly the palyers on the park up to then did not look like breaking Derby down. We were at home FFS playing long ball football and Derby dominated us for 75% of the game and deserved their point. That is not the way to approach a game when we are 15 to 20 pts away from clinching promotion. We played like we were trying to stay up not go up!
Having said all that, we are still 5pts clear with a game in hand. But we can not afford anymore slip ups, 2pts from matches against Hudders, Brighton, Boro and Derby is a very poor return especially at this critical time of the season. Has that trip to Dubai and the lack of games due to the FA cup etc worked against us?
Those of us who were counting their chickens and focusing on next season in the premier league beleive me it is far from a sealed deal. As 2 more bad results could see us knocked off our perch.
Teams arounds us are finding form again, especially Palace and Watford. With the current form they are in and picking up points for fun I am afraid 85pts may not be enough to seal promotion.
I am trying to remain positive, but knowing City history in the last few seasons it worries me!
