Felt for the lad last night - clearly struggled and had a poor game. Think some are expecting too much from him - he's raw but I think he's being relied upon too much right now.

Some numpties were giving him stick.

He's only 20 and inexperienced. Good players learn from their mistakes and I think Ben Nugent will be a real talent in 2/3 years.

He looked quite nervous. If him and Turner were not told to not lump the ball forward everytime maybe we'd keep the ball more often. The most no nonsense defenders ever.

was like a rabbit in the headlights... felt sorry for him as turner wasnt helping him or telling him what to do... he was left to make his own judgement too many times..

important games now and we looked a mess at the back... think the games are too big for him at the moment..

kev is an experienced defender and despite recent criticism should really have been used with connolly moving to the middle..

lets just hope hudson is back for leicester and bellamy too.

I agree, he needed Hudson talking him through and calming him down. Sooner he's back the better!

Most youngsters who come in has an experienced head along side them to talk to them.
Turner looked like he didn't open his mouth.
Turner is struggling himself. I'd say Nugent had a better game than turner yesterday. Only just mind.

of the back four i thought nugent had the best game he was the one telling the senior players who to pick up and mark the lad w8ill benifit with hudson to help him turner is the cause of our recent poor play he constantly lu7mps the ball away losing possession whilst he was out wee played out from the back its our passing game that served us well and we have abandoned it

It's our midfield that parts like the red sea whenever the opposition run at them with the ball that's the problem.

They were all too scared to make any challenges.

He will have a bad game but still he will improve.

It's not so hard for the lads who step in at Peterboro or someone else.

It seems harsh putting the kid in the wrong side as well.

Turner is more experienced why not shift him over.
Also the experienced Marshall giving Nugent the ball in awkward situations on his wrong foot didn't help.

I did wonder why Malky put Nugent on the wrong side.

I guessed that maybe he felt that if the other 3 were settled then that would help Nugent settle ion more. Didn't seem to work though.

I thought he did ok, he was trying his best and he was talking to those around him and shouting to players for them to mark and talking to turner....To me he looked like he was trying to do what Hudson does, but Hudson can organise and defend at the same time. If he was playing with Hudson and not turner I think he would shine more.

He don't really have a good first touch & panicked like hell on a one to one with no one around him,& Malky really shouted at him last night to think more.

I go agree but what surprised me is two big strong centre backs where totally bullied by Sammon all game.

I think Nugent's better on the ball than Turner but yesterday the midfield was giving them no options whatsoever.

I swear they were purposefully standing in inbetween derby players so that they didn't have to collect the ball.

next weeek theyve got david nugent and chris wood to contend with,could turn out to be painful viewing

Said this all game, looked as though there was no communication between the pair of them as they were hesitant in committing to decisions and marking. Half the time looked as though the ball would drop and he'd have no call from anyone so just hit it last minute out of fear which is understandable really. Didn't help that he had no protection as the central midfielders were non existent, constantly allowed to walk straight through and put them under pressure at the back.

He was up against a very good striker in the championship causes both turner and Nugent murder all game, the midfield looked shocking though we were outplayed there, Whitts give the ball away and we really need to watch ourselves on the counter we haven't got the pace like derby showed and Brighton

I agree with most of what's been said in this thread. I like nugent as a youngster coming through the ranks and he does the simple things well. For me though he won't be good enough for top end of the championship or certainly the prem as he's not got pace

nearly everyone had a bad game and i think it spread to the young lad, if Hudson was along side him he would have been ok,

And yes everyone expects big things from already which shows he is going to be a cracking player soon
