Not the time to panic but!!!

Wed Mar 06, 2013 8:16 am

I must admit that performance last night was a concern against a Side short on confidence with one win in 10 I believe and paying us to much respect! If the truth be said if Derby had the self belief to go for it last night we would have been on an the end of an embarrassing hammering.

The Vulchers (press) have been circling all week asking are Cardiff going to blow it again, and I've been quietly confident not this year its different we won’t capitulate! Even after the Boro defeat I wasn't concerned we out played Boro for the last hour and were unlucky not to come away with something from the game, but last night I think we got it wrong on and off the pitch.

I was surprised to see the line up against Derby team low in confidence I thought Malky might have gone for a different selection, more pace and direction with perhaps considering Noone, Kim, and mason to start instead of helgassun, Smith, and Conway? Conway and Taylor haven’t really been working as well as they were a couple of weeks ago together, and at boro we got smashed all game down the left with the pair offering not to much quality going forward, both work hard but not quite doing it as a unit at the minute. Tommy Smith great football player and I rate him highly isn't quite on the money, and I would sacrifice him for the minute just to try something different. With Bellamy being injured I would given mason an hour and brought Helgassun on for 30 minutes. Like Campbell when mason is on the pitch he always gives the impression there is a goal in him and more often than not there is. The defence picks its self really after Super kev performance on Saturday!

On the pitch last night we didn't look comfortable on the ball at all for long periods. Whittingham who I praised only on Sunday and is our quality midfielder didn't have a particularly good game but he wasn't on his own. In fact I think it’s easier to say who did have a good game in my opinion only Campbell and Connelly got any where near the levels of performance that we have come to expect this season from our players. Nugent I thought had a good solid game in defence and again never let us down, but overall we looked uncomfortable on the ball last night, players were not looking for the ball with the exception of Campbell ( spent three quarters of the game in our half looking for scraps) and Connelly. There was no intensity, pace, rhythm, pattern, or urgency to our game last night, and we looked as if we were over coached taking part in a training session.

Like Most managers malky will not make a change until late in the game I am all for giving the players a chance to put it right, but it was clear after half an hour last night something needed to change if we were going to win the match whether it was shape or personal it wasn't working. We had a fair bit of luck last night prior to their goal which again came from individual errors and poor decision making and should have been a couple down. I thought when malky made some changes although it was desperation long ball stuff we put them under immense pressure but it was too little to late.

Perhaps now is not the time to panic with Hudson and Bellamy to come back into the team (sooner the better) our talisman but it is concerning to see so many senior pros have a bad game last night. If we blow it this season from the position we have been in this late in the season it will rank as the worst ever!

If there are positives to come out of last night the players scrapped hard to earn a point, and well done to the supporters last night despite the performance on the pitch did their best to get behind the team. There are tougher challenges to come and we need to get back on track as soon as possible. Let’s keep it together and hold our nerve hopefully the players will do the same.

We are in a great position still and hopefully this is a blip that we can put right against Leicester, i have great faith in Malky he is a young manager who will change things to try and make it right, and I believe he will get us through it. Love never runs smooth :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky:

Vince, agree with a lot of what you said. I don't know why Malky doesn't try Conway on the right. Conway's main problem at the moment, as it was last season, is that he much prefers to cut back on his right and his persistence in doing this stumped so many of our attacks down his side. If he was on the right he could just hit the by-line and whip a cross in.

Helguson is rusty at the moment. I think he's a great aerial outlet but was poor last night. I have to admit, Gestede did well when he came on but he's proven before he's a sub and not a starter. Mason still looks a shadow of the player he was last season so not sure he's the answer.

I would have been tempted to start with Noone on the left and Conway on the right yesterday. I would also bring Mutch back in for Whittingham in the next game. Whittingham is flagging and needs a rest.

Yes Mutch could be the answer but he will need a time to bed in and didn't play well in his last outing at Birmingham away. Conway I like him but he didn't take anyone on apart from when he tried to take the guy on in our half when they scored the goal!

Needs a freshen up I believe in midfield and i would put whittingham on the bench for a couple of games bringing him on late

Our problem was having that 10 pt lead then not playing then getting the odd defeat and then everyone panicking everyone needs to keep calm, getting on players don't help either.

Spot on Vince.

Let's ALL get together in the closing games and get over the finishing line - then stick 2 fingers up to the outside world.

we def need to make a couple of changes, as malky did before.. when he dropped gunnarsson his performances did improve from the bench and on return..

at the early stages of the season, noone had me on the edge of my seat, and yet yesterday we clearly lacked width on the right...

kimbo im my opinion though, is def ready to start games. he makes such an impact on the pitch with and without the ball.

conway is hot and cold, but we are def weak down the left hand side and as the derby full back was on a yellow yesterday i was very suprised that we didnt run at him a bit more..

tommy smith is a talented player, but is off form at the moment and i agree would certainly put him on the bench for the time being.

Its worrying as our luck is starting to wain. We havent played well very often this season, but the battling in the team has got us the result or if we came up short our rivals have fooked up. This is going to be a long end to the season.

Some pace would be the answer.

With Bellamy injured I cannot believe that Noone did not start last night.

Lets hope Malky isnt losing the plot in the run-in.

Weve still got a cushion, no time to really panic just yet.

But Malkys style is negative football

What Malky see's in the pre match analysis of the opposition that swerves him to the long ball is beyond me. If we are good at it I wouldn't mind, but we are not.

Last season we stopped playing football around Christmas to launch it down the middle, why yesterday we decided to follow suit is a mystery.

Helguson or Rudy forces our hand, sacrifice these and make us play football, we are quite good at it.
