" NEW CARDIFF CITY CHAIRMAN " Simon lim

As reported, Dato’ Chan Tien Ghee last week stepped down as Chairman and director of Cardiff City Football Club in order to embark on new career and business pursuits that require his full attention. Given constraints of time and distance, TG believes he is unable to meet the demands of his position as Chairman and board member of Cardiff City Football Club.

At this time, Cardiff City Chief ExecutiveSimon Limwill step in to the role of Acting Chairman at the club, holding this position until further notice. Simon will also continue his Chief Executive duties at the club with the support of the local management team.

Speaking today, Simon said, “First and foremost, I would like to place on record my utmost respect to Dato’ Chan Tien Ghee for his valued contribution to Cardiff City Football Club over the last three years. TG leaves a legacy that we can all be proud of and should all work hard to see continued.

“My ongoing remit is to work closely with the board and local management team over the final months of the season. With hard work and a collective mind-set from all connected to the club, God willing we will achieve our goals.”

This week Cardiff City Football Club has also appointed Stephen Owen-Conwayin the role of Consultant and Special Council. Stephen will provide assistance on the resolution of disputes, alternative dispute resolution processes and legal commercial matters.

This gets more strange almost by the day.

We now have an acting CEO (with no previous experience in such a role) also taking on the role of acting Chairman (with no previous experience in such a role).
Was TG`s resignation a week or so ago such a surprise to the controlling shareholder that no proper succession plan was put in place? If so , why? If not , why wasn`t succession thought through before his resignation was announced and his successor announced at the same time.

And the Stephen Owen-Conway situation is even more puzzling.
First we had an Australian based barrister being elected to the holding company board rather than as a paid professional (weird). Then he resigns as a director within a few weeks (weirder). Now he is back again , but this time as a paid consultant. He seems to be in and out more often than a participant in a Hokey Cokey dance.

Then there is the bit about the legacy left behind by TG which is stated to be something that the ongoing directors and management should be proud of and all work hard to see continued. But TG was a (directly quoted) supporter of the club`s history and legacy stating that the club belonged to the fans (with owners just custodians) and that we were the Bluebirds and would always remain so. Time will soon tell us to what degree the ongoing regime honour that legacy and their comments quoted here.

Don't any of you find it a bit strange that your ex chairman TG hasn't made any comment on this at all?

Of course, It's quite likely I've missed it.
