Europa league Is going to Ruin Swansea

Sun Mar 03, 2013 1:45 pm

hectic fixture schedule,
Very little financial gain for the club playing in a second string europe compitition, just going to be a pain in the arse for them
they wont have the squad to cope with hectic schedule which will damage their league position,
If they try and buy the squad to cover them

we seen what happened when they made changes for liverpool.. they got stuffed

Thye're going to end up like birmingham - F*ucked

Yet another Swansea City thread ... and you ask why we come on here? Because every day there's a new one, a new talking point about our club so why not join in with the debate.

Anyway, Europa League football did not f**k up Birmingham. They went down following their League Cup win, something we won't do as we're already on 40 points which will be more than enough. In their Europa League season they finished 4th, got to a play off semi and did well in Europe. Birmingham also have suffered recently due to being in financial trouble, we're not in financial trouble.

You mention Liverpool in terms of squad depth, well sure a whole second string team isn't going to do well in a game our first team were backed to lose but we made 7 changes for Fulham away and won, and making it less changes to the team but still rotating throughout January with two games a week saw us climb up the table and reach the cup final.

How are we supposed to improve our self as a club without European football? It gives a chance to push on as a club, improve our reputation throughout Europe, attract better players, improve our squad, increase our fan base, increase our income and possibly create some major history in European competitions as well as to try and establish ourself as a team qualifying for Europe and to establish ourself as a club above mid table in the Premier League. Only you can make it out to be a bad thing.

League Positions of clubs who qualified for the UEFA Cup/Europa League in the last ten years

2002/2003 - Chelsea (4th), Liverpool (5th), Blackburn (6th), Fulham (14th) , Leeds (15th), Ipswich [CHAMPIONSHIP] (7th),
2003/2004 - Liverpool (4th), Newcastle (5th), Southampton (12th), Blackburn (15th), Man. City (16th)
2004/2005 - Middlesbrough (7th), Newcastle (14th), Millwall [CHAMPIONSHIP] (10th)
2005/2006 - Bolton (8th), Everton (11th), Middlesbrough (14th)
2006/2007 - Tottenham (5th), Blackburn (10th), Newcastle (13th), West Ham (15th)
2007/2008 - Everton (5th), Blackburn (7th), Tottenham (11th), Bolton (16th)
2008/2009 - Everton (5th), Aston Villa (6th), Tottenham (8th), Manchester City (10th), Portsmouth (14th)
2009/2010 - Aston Villa (6th), Liverpool (7th), Everton (8th), Fulham (12th)
2010/2011 - Manchester City (3rd), Liverpool (6th), Aston Villa (9th)
2011/2012 - Manchester City (1st), Manchester United (2nd), Tottenham (4th), Fulham (9th), Stoke (14th), Birmingham [CHAMPIONSHIP] (4th)

Number of teams that were relegated: 0/44
Number of teams that finished top half (Premier League): 26/41
Number of teams that qualified for the Europa League/UEFA Cup the season after: 12/44
Number of teams that qualified for the Champions League: 5/44
Number of teams that won the league: 1/44

Number of teams that it was the ruin of: 0/44

Good Reply...

But precisely my point, if you look at the record...

smaller teams like yourself have struggled to make it in the top half of the table,

West ham, portsmouth, southampton, fulham, stoke , middlesborough, newcastle. Bolton, blackburn

7 of these teams have also been relagated Since playing in Europe.
more than a coincedence - they play in the europa league , they mess up the following season and are left with a massive wage bill and no European football and that more often than not results in a struggle to stay in the league

Well we're not a team that are going to get ahead of ourselves financially, we're not going to be paying massive wages and will happily pick up some more bargains next season. We're not going to be left with any massive wage bills and next season we'll have the new TV rights deal as well, so we're going to have more money spare than we'll have ever had before. Europa League was not the ruin of clubs like Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Blackburn, it was bad ownership and we just happen to have the best owners in the league.

I'd hate for us to be on 40 ponts, 8th in the prem, with a cup and a spell in Europe next season.

Much better to be losing to Middlesbrough in the Championship , and hoping we hold on for promotion ;)

Not under our current owners though, which is what matters. You've called them stingy in the past for being stingy but they're sensible, and will not be going spending money on players that we don't have. If we were to go down, then with relegation clauses in all players contracts we'd continue to make money in the Championship and financially be in a position where we are able to push for a place back in the Premier League. Our situation is a complete polar opposite to a Portsmouth or a QPR where there owners are putting themselves in financial risk.

thats war im on bout u silly administration c**t init like u dopey f*cking c**t creditors

I honestly couldn't care if you won the Europa League
In my oppinion you have one of the best coaching set ups in Europe and obviously your transfer policy is bang on, right attitude, young players with a great work ethic (a bit like ourselves)

I just think the europa league will distract your league form if you get deep into it, and that means you suffer the next season, and will struggle to keep hold of players with long term ambitions....

Im going to enjoy watching the jacks in Europe altho I will be amused if you get stuffed,
but I'l certainly watch the games to see how you lot do and what sort of support you take etc etc.

still hard to believe you lot got to the prem.

Only one or two have had the balls to show their faces there, ever since we left the lower leagues.

On the subject of this thread, I was inclined to agree somewhat as its going to mean a lot more games, depending on how we progress. But Michael, and the rest of the players and officials at the club, seem to be relishing the challenge, so I've become a bit more enthusiastic about the prospect. Only time will tell, but I feel most of you would want your club to play in Europe, given the chance.

Mature banter is good, but too many "fans" of both clubs just want to indulge in childish name calling.
