All over for McNaughton

Sat Mar 02, 2013 4:09 pm

Had his chance today to step up and stake a claim for right back but he has had a shocker.

Taken off at half time for Nugent and as good as he has been for City over the years, i don't expect him to be at the club next year.

No he hasn't played well but has the rest of the back 4 played any better ?

He'll still have a part to play this season.

Also, the entire back four were very poor in that first half, with Taylor being far worse in my opinion

The reason i have singled out McNaughton because he is the only one in the back four who's contract is up this summer and if he has to play for his contract, he didn't do a good job today.

Better than Taylor and Connolly

Need 2 fullbacks (IMHO FACT).

We need two Hudsons :ayatollah:

In the premier next year we will need at least two full backs to come in as well as a centre half, Connelly will struggle at right back or centre half so I think he will only be back up and as great a servant to the club as Kevin has been he is past it now.

Who the fook says we will be in the premier next year!!!!

The only reason I have singled out ..............!!!

Who exactly of the back 4 had a good game today........

Taylor was ok.............again

One of those days, serioudly, we can't win them all FFS.

Today illustrated that MacNaughton along with Taylor and Connolly will not be up to the required standard if we are promoted. Many posters on AAMB have been suggesting that MacNaughton deserves another contract with CCFC but unfortunately he is way past his best and is just not good enough to be even a squad player if we are in the Premiership.

Disgusted with fellow bluebirds that they would be so remorseless in disposing one of our greatest servants. He is not good enough anymore, I agree. He's lower championship material but we need players like him for backup. If he's happy to sit on the bench than that's great, look at Tait and Monk.

McNaughton has been exposed as a limited full back ever since Malky arrived and encouraged his full backs to push more forward and overlap. Give him a purely defensive job to do and he will rarely let you down. Ask him to push forward or to pass a ball more than 3 yards and he is exposed as our weak link.
If we are to go up then there is little point in continuing with Kev. I agree 2 new full backs are essential if we go up and Taylor and Connolly can then be cover. Simples

at long last the mcnaughton love-in has come to an end,hes been shite for the last three seasons, running around a lot does not make him a good full back,
other teams have cottoned on to his lack of positional sense and his distribution is welsh league.
love him for his commitment but thats all he has

Kev didnt have good game yesterday but Taylor was much worse i must admit

Re: All over for McNaughton

Taylor and Connolly were worse. Some people just like to have a dig at Kev. Its disgusting. Yesterday even our midfield 2 weren't great. We had a shocking period in the first half and we paid for it.

What people are failing to grasp from the OP is McNaughton was the only one in defence playing yesterday who's contract is up at the end of the season.

He is playing for his future but the other defenders are safe in the knowing that there is a major possibility that they will be at the club next year. McNaughton doesn't have that luxury. Yes, a few of the other players had a bad day but McNaughton did himself no favours. So if McNaughton is being judged from here on in for a new contract, he needs to improve fast.

Super Kevs been my favourite player over the years, but i agree hes had his day although id keep him for the bench

Got lambasted for the first goal ,but Conolly was more culpable, positionally unaware as usual.

I think he has been a brilliant servant to this club but in football, there's no such thing as sentiment.

I miss the old McNaughton bombing down the wing but for some reason or another, it's not in his game any more. If he's been told not to do that, we'll never know unless he speaks out.

But i do hope he does improve because we know what he is capable of. If not, i hope we can be able to say goodbye in a fitting manner.
