Transfer budget revealed

Thu Feb 28, 2013 1:51 pm

So, putting the other parts of the interview aside for just a second....

£25 million budget for Malky if we are promoted, I'm going to assume that's just for transfer fees, if so that's a very decent budget in my opinion, or do you think Tan means that's a fees and wages incorporated amount??

I think that would be just for transfer fees.

But that is a very decent budget. We could get some quality signings out of that. :old:

Re: Transfer budget revealed

trick is to still pick up a few players on frees or low transfers, plenty of people available who can do a job at the higher level.

Re: Transfer budget revealed

Thu Feb 28, 2013 2:11 pm

Our running cost for this seaaon is near on 40m.

Re: Transfer budget revealed

Thu Feb 28, 2013 2:12 pm

That amount would have to be just transfer fees.

Like Paul said pick up a few frees and buy a few quality players then :ayatollah:

We are not talking about running costs we are talking about transfer budgets, have you replied to the wrong thread or something???

Re: Transfer budget revealed

If that is just transfer fees then it's certainly a substantial amount. But overspending has been the main worry and upon promotion was hoped that it would stop.

With £25m spending comes players that want big wages. Look at QPR, it's ugly.

Big difference being MM is nothing like Mark Hughes.

I wouldn't normally reply to you Roathy, but I'm only doing so to keep the thread on track, don't let Roathy turn this thread into yet another one of his 'let's panic threads'

Southampton is another example £31 million in transfers this season and are 3pts off the drop zone.

Its pretty obvious that spending wont guarentee staying up.
Southampton have bought players who will have a sell on value and not crazy wages. QPR have done the opposite.

£25m is terrible for a Premier League team wanting to survive.

Are you sure you haven't confused that figure with the cost of benefits in the swansea town area to the state?

Oh yes, we wouldn't be able to sign Benzema then...

For the types of players we'd be looking for, 25mil would more than suffice.

Re: Transfer budget revealed

I trust Malky with whatever budget hes given.

We'd need 7 ish players, probably 5 starters so if one of those is a loan. Roughly 4 million quid a player. Not too bad.

Both Southampton and QPR spent more last year and QPR are rock bottom and Southampton are 3 points off safety. Our owner will just take the profit out of the club, pay it into Berjaya Group Ltd and leave the club screwed over.

Are you not aware of how a football club operates? He'll take the profit from Sky TV deals and competition money and pocket it. He'll then use loans to keep the club afloat and then sod off taking all the TV money and competition money with him.

I suggest you research how H&G ruined Liverpool. They did the same leaving the club owing around £300m.

A quick search finds me this on Google so I suspect you could fine an article of finer detail if you looked.

£25 million is more than enough for us. I would expect us to go the same route as Norwich and West Brom and buy good british players that we can afford and will be on lower wages

25 million is more than enough! Swansea bought Michu for 2m! Why cant we do the same? We have a good manager, rich owners and good backroom staff.

Gaston Ramirez cost Southampton almost £18m alone in fees. £12m for transfer, £3m settlement + £45,000 per week wages.

Swansea are a rare example. They spent around £18m last season on transfer expenditure but were very fortunate and got good bargains after a season of establishing themselves in the Premiership.

We'll be very fortunate to do the same. Lets not forget that they also had a manager with very strong connections in the game and he was a major factor in pulling players like Michu to the club. To think Malky can bring in players like that is ridiculous.

Huw played a masterstroke getting Laudrup in because his links also means he will have greater pulling power.

For £25m we'll probably end up with Hooper, McGeady and the next Malaysian Messi.

But Southampton had the money there to pay for players like that. You also got take in the factor that they have kept the majority of their team from the last couple of seasons. If you look at norwich they haven't spent anywhere near as much as QPR and Southampton, same with Reading. I would rather spend as little as possible on players who are good enough to do the job for us.
