Cardiff City boss Mackay hails best performance yet after Wolves win

Cardiff City boss Mackay wants his team to be a winning machine

CARDIFF City manager Malky Mackay declared his team had produced their best performance of the season as they beat Wolves at Molineux to soar eight points clear again at the top of the Championship.

Two goals by Fraizer Campbell saw the Bluebirds bounce back from last Tuesday’s defeat to Brighton to reinforce their Premier League credentials.

And delighted boss Mackay talked up the silky Sunday show in the Midlands, saying: “It was the best we’ve played this season in parts. In the first half we were excellent.

“We were never going to get an easy game at Wolves. They are a former Premier League team full of quality, experienced players.

“But Fraizer showed exactly what got him his England cap and the quality I saw when I signed him.”

The former Manchester United trainee scored in each half to send the delighted 2,500 travelling Cardiff fans home with a smile upon their faces.

Mackay said: “It was great to see the Cardiff fans come out in their droves and I want them to back us in every game from here on in.”

With matches against promotion rivals Middlesbrough and Leicester on the horizon, Mackay reckons six or seven wins will be enough to guarantee Premier League football in the Welsh capital next season.

He said: “I think the teams that go up will need to get a points tally in the high 80s or low 90s. We will be looking to get there as quickly as we can.”

Wolves boss Dean Saunders bemoaned two horrible mistakes that let Campbell in for his instinctive headed goals.

“We were undone by two catastrophic mistakes,” rapped Saunders.

“ We worked on clearing throws and we failed to do that on the first goal.

“Then for the second our goalkeeper Carl Ikeme will admit he should have got the ball and nine times out of 10 he would have.

“We fought and fought until the end but we can’t make mistakes like that.”

It was important we came back strong against wolves and got 3 points, especially with the other teams around us dropping points. wWe had some pressure on us, But Malky has built a team that can handle it. I would feel less confident if it was a Dave Jones team.

Malky is def one of the best young up and coming managers in the UK at present.

Hi Lou, long time. Foundor lost any i-pods lately.

When MM joined us I felt he had some stages to get through:

1. Establish a stable side in the Championship in his first season. He did that with extra to spare.
2. Get us promoted with investment. That looks like he is going to achieve that.
3. Once in the premiership he needs to keep us there. No reason he cannot do that.

Found or lost any i-pods lately................Huh? Confused about that?

The signing of campbell has been crucial, 5 goals in as many games, he's def a player who can score goals in the prem also. He is a prem manager in the making. If we go up, the summer will be crucial in terms of players coming in and out. we have a decent sized squad and only allowed 25 players.
