Cardiff City star Taylor insists Brighton defeat has not knocked confidence

Feb 22nd 2013

Malky Mackay has no new injury concerns this weekend, but young centre-half Ben Nugent could still be absent with a dead-leg.

CARDIFF CITY defender Andrew Taylor insists the Bluebirds have got the spirit to bounce back against Wolves on Sunday.

Malky Mackay's men lost only their second home game of the season as they crashed 2-0 to Brighton in midweek and saw their lead at the top of the Championship cut to five points.

Taylor and his teammates head to Molineux looking to maintain their promotion charge, and the left-back insists Cardiff were buoyed by their clash with Brighton rather than down-heartened.

“It was unfortunate against Brighton. We’d like to have won the game, we want to win every game," said Taylor.

"It was not to be, but on another night I think we would have won it comfortably. We played well and created plenty of chances, but we conceded two slack goals.

“But we are still a confident bunch. If we’d come of the pitch thinking we’d been out-played maybe we would have looked at each other and wondered if we are as good as we think we are. But we all felt we played well, kept the ball against a team that usually keep it themselves. That’s a positive.

“You are not going to go through a whole season without losing a few games. This league is a funny one. It’s about how you react and we’ve shown we react well. It’s up to us to do it again against Wolves."

If second-place Hull win at Bolton tomorrow Cardiff's lead going into Sunday's game could be down to two points, but Taylor admitted it was keeping their place in the automatic promotion spots and the gap to third which was the most important thing.

Taylor added: “It’s down to five points on second place, but really all that matters is third place and we have an eight point gap there plus a game in hand.

“If a couple of months ago we had been offered that we would have snapped their hand off. We are still in a fantastic position.

“Over the next few weeks there will be gaps opening and closing, but if we stay positive and keep doing the right things we will be OK."

Mackay has no new injury concerns this weekend, but young centre-half Ben Nugent could still be absent with a dead-leg.

Sensible words by Andrew Taylor, who I thought had a really good game Tuesday night. A minor setback is all it was. Everyone can lose a game, look at today for example. Watford look strong, but I believe we have the strength in depth to push on and win this league. Taylor for me has come on leaps and bounds this season and will be a man who has had a big hand in helping us up!
