Name change

Fri Feb 22, 2013 5:17 pm

I have just heard from an impeccable source who is extremely close to the club, that the name CARDIFF will never change, however CITY will be dropped either as early as next season or the following season, we will be re named CARDIFF DRAGONS, and before the pro re brand lot start to shout me down, A) this can be done with both the football and Premier leagues if the correct notice is given, and B) the source is one hundred per cent reliable, so if you think this thread is rubbish please remember the date it was posted and refer back to it the day this announcement happens, this gives me zero pleasure passing on this awful news on :( :(

Sadly Craig, Simon might be right, I heard the same today, I was having lunch with some business man and he told me he has heard our club will eventually be called the Cardiff Dragons thats why the new scarf had just Cardiff on. :o

Until this is confirmed we need to continue to support the team. Get behind Malky just like the 2500 are doing on Sunday. :thumbright:

Annis, it appears that major football in general (and including Cardiff City if in the Premiership) is heading towards a US-style 'franchise' system of ownership and maybe even location system :o

We MIGHT be lucky that we are in a pretty good catchment area for the required fan base but imagine IF other clubs (e.g. QPR, Wigan or even Swansea if WE are in the Premiership) struggled to get 'acceptable' crowds, then their 'owners' would simply upsticks and move somewhere more profitable down the road

It's not unrealistic. It happens in the United States and MK Dons have sort of tested the water here. It worked for them and we know these days money talks :(

I dread the thought but people need to realise that Vincent Tan isn't here for OUR personal benefit, albeit at the moment his motives are (mainly) working in our favour at the moment team-wise ;)

The RED issue is lost (for the reasons you mention elsewhere) and we, the fans, need to move on FAST in order to get behind Malky and the team BUT have one eye on the future in order to pre-empt any further erosions of our club WITHOUT CONSULTATION WITH THE PAYING FANS :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Total rubbish?? Watch this space (sadly)!!

It doesn't 'mention' anything of the above and I never said it did BUT if you watch top football in general there is a gradual move towards BIG clubs being owned by BIG investors spending BIG money and expecting BIG returns in terms of INCOME and SUCCESS

To do that they will (and do) require BIG crowds spending BIG money on seats and merchandise

Having NO affinity to the clubs they are running will mean that the emotional ties will not exist, resulting in SOME clubs being relocated in order to MAXIMISE business :(

I didn't say it was INEVITABLE; I said it WASN'T UNREALISTIC (as frightening a thought as it might be)

Read my post(s) carefully, please ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

The story is the trademark of "Cardiff City Football Club" has expired, not CCFC specifically.

Re: Name change

That will be the end for me. there will be as many man utd fans in the Cardiff dragons end by then anyway. sad f*cking day.
Cardiff City must be the only club who might get promoted but end up a different team but with the same players. its souless down there anyway.

Re: Name change

I have stuck with the re brand all day long, not because I like it but simply because I must get on with it but
Cardiff Dragons? Are you taking the piss?
The Malaysian b*stard will be dead in 10 years time so I hope he does think twice before changing this!!!!!!

Re: Name change

Sat Feb 23, 2013 1:14 am

Its pathetic that people are making rumours up and these silly ideas about the name change.

Re: Name change

Sat Feb 23, 2013 1:38 am

This is complete bollocks, I remember tg not so long back stating that the name would never change and would always be called cardiff city, people need to stop listening to shit and talking shit aswell

Re: Name change

Sat Feb 23, 2013 1:47 am

The same people saying the name wont change are the same people who said the rebranding wouldn't happen after the WHU game. Then the official announcement came, proved them wrong and made them look very foolish. History may very well repeat itself.
