Bit over the top?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 1:59 pm

20,000+ people were offered a free, tidy looking scarf in the colour that their team plays in before a game on a cold Tuesday Night in February, most of these people took them and wore them. Furthermore, a free season ticket was available for a fan pictured wearing one.

The scarfs may have been red but to suggest that it is a sign that CCFC is dead or even the Bluebird is dead is very much an emotional overexaggeration.

The fact that people so enthuasiastically wore the scarf shows me that a) people like free things and b) peoples desire to support their hometown team is more alive than ever.

Everyone knows there is nothing we can do about the badge or shirt, any protests will only harm CCFC and none of us want that.

So let's get behind the boys, get your Cardiff gear on whatever colour it is and stand proud that we are a footballing city with a great football team with a great history and an exciting future.

Did you not witness the apathy and distinct lack of atmosphere?!

Nobody knew what to do. Fans having a go at each other for wearing a certain colour.

Myself? I fell flat when I saw the red. It appears I wasn't the only one.

Re: Bit over the top?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 2:13 pm

It was a redbird on the scarf. That pretty much tells me the Blubird is dead.

Re: Bit over the top?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 2:28 pm

Our colours are supposed to now BLUE AND RED

So why wasnt fans given the option to take a free BLUE scarf OR a RED scarf when they walked through the turnstiles??

Why not offer a free season ticket to a fan who wears a blue scarf and cheers the team on!?! .......or are the fan who still love there tradition not as worthy as those prepared to wear VT's red??

Which match? There hasn't appeared to be much at many games at all this season (or last season for that matter), scarfs or no scarfs.

The scarf was only red and white. The badge on our shirt suggests otherwise.

Our colours are red and black. That's why there is such a fuss in the first place.

I agree with you that the free season ticket offer was insensitive and divisive, should have been open for all fans.

It tells me that it was a lot cheaper to make them with just two colours.

You'd have noted that it was significantly worse Tuesday night then?

Agreed! I have a red scarf that my girlfriend bought me and that one has a blue bluebird on it, they are available.

This is spot on! If it was just a "good gesture" why wasn't everyone with a cardiff fan that wore a city flag blue or red given an oportunity to win a season ticket! I seen somone say we should compromise with tan and allow our colours to be blue and red but when has he ever compromised on the situation. The easy thing to do would have a blue shirt with red trim at home and red away kit with blue trim! If hes looking for a compromise hand blue and red scarf out. This "our colours and now blue and red " is a load of crap!Tan wants us all red and tuesday showed that.If these red scarfs wern't given out tuesday it would have been just another game but by rubbing the rebrand in the face of city fans that don't want it is a step to far.

Nope, only the anti-reds seem to be spinning that line.
Cold Tuesday Night and a 2-0 defeat, only our 2nd home defeat of the season easily explains any difference.

and maybe if you all got behind the team instead of complaining there would be a better atmosphere.

There's no spin at all. Complete apathy around the ground. Some stunned into silence. It was a disgraceful night.

How do you know I didn't cheer on the team? Do you sit by me?

There was. Where did I say that I didn't cheer on/support the team during the match?

You anti-reds contradict yourselves, one minute you are saying how shocked you are that so many enthusiastically wore the scarfs and the next minute you talk about apathy...from the sounds of it the amount who didn't wear the scarfs and were 'stunned into silence' weren't a great percentage of the crowd anyway. What about the rest?

Your comment was 'There's no spin at all. Complete apathy around the ground. Some stunned into silence. It was a disgraceful night.'

You are clearly talking about the atmosphere not the scarves.

The apathy and atmosphere was, in my opinion, caused by the shock of the number of red scarves around the place.

At what point does that imply that I was not cheering on the team?

But the shock was down to the sheer amount of people wearing them, I assume they weren't shocked because they weren't bothered enough about the rebrand to wear them.

Anyhow, thanks for admitting there was complete apathy which of course includes everyone, including you.

Thats a no then.

As other posters have mentioned in this thread, the atmosphere was worse. I firmly believe the scarves had an impact on this.

That's just my opinion though. :thumbright:

I'll explain it again for you:-

You complained about the atmopshere and the 'complete apathy'.

I said if you got behind the team instead of moaned about the red it would be better. Complete apathy means everyone.

You again repeated that the scarves impacting it, narrowing the apathy to the anti-reds which includes you.

Thank you very much 8-)

So, you're hanging on my word "complete" to try and prove a point? :laughing6: how very clever of you.

Okay, there was a LOT of apathy. Worded better for you?

Before & after the game - I was disgusted with the amount of red. During the game, as always, I supported the team and the colour situation was at the back of my mind. :thumbright:

Anyway, that wasn't even our argument. Though you did a good job of losing it!

My point was that everyone is overexaggerating about the scarfs, a few fans took some free scarves. If they were blue I am sure the same people still would have taken them. The fact that it affected the atmosphere means that fans need to stop letting the red stop them supporting the team. Funnily enough I never mentioned you personally but then somebody who is wrong always tries the diversion tactic.
