I didn't post last night, partly because my head was spinning and partly because i wanted to give people time to cool off a bit.
Last night, i must admit i was amazed how many red scarfs were on and how few blue. I must admit part of me felt a bit numb and gutted that it seemed to spell the end of cardiff city in blue.
I honestly think that the phenomena of message boards has had a big part to play in peoples decision to sort of embrace the red. (please hear me out)
I can only speak for myself and some of my mates in that the decision no to protest was certainly helped by some of those who were most vehemently against it being so quick to call other fans sellouts and scabs.
As time as gone on i found myself developing complete "hatred" for some of the posters who turn up on mikes board after every defeat gloating over our loss! They may feel bitter about the rebrand but if they do want to stoke up some suppport for the cause may i suggest that this isn't the way to go about it.
I honestly think if we weren't in the days of social media where it is sometimes easy to mistake people's tone and intentions the campaign to keep blue may have gained better support. But when i saw what i thought was other fans being threatening to those who were willing to embrace the rebrand on here i suppose it helped me dig my heels in.
Besides, i honestly don't think there was or is any alternative. I don't want to get into the sam hamman thing again but whether you think he intentionally overspent or not, the day days of sam and the riddler left us with debts that couldn't be managed.
I remember logging on here the summer of the malaysian takeover from Majorca and reading that we were about to be liquidated and the tax man was about to shut us down. (spoilt my fecking holiday(
The only people who came to the rescue were the malaysians. I know some think that Tan's motives are more than questionable but i honestly don't see what alternatives there are. We play in red, keep the taxman at bay and embrace what modern football has become and just enjoy it for what it is, or to be honest i dont know what any other alternative is cos if our debts are £80 million who is going to pick up that bill??
I am slightly worried when i see the word "city" being dropped from the scarf last night, and i'm not naive enough to think it's a mistake but i honestly think that the best option is to seek assurances from tan about the future. I don't know if this is possible and i only hope that taffyapples post about him being willing to compromise has some truth in it.
The only thing i will add is that this slagging off of plastics has got to end. The amount of people i saw cursing "plastics" under their breath was ridiculous. We can't on the one hand call for 26k crowds each week and yet expect no new fans to be among them! There were only 3k of us in 1990 so where do you expect the other 23k to come from. For people to expect this 23k to be as passionate about keeping the blue as some of you is unreasonable. They are just happy to watch a good standard of football locally. As time goes by they will probably become more passionate about the traditions they have been used to, that's human nature.
This post is in no way aimed to provoke or stir up shit it's just my honest conclusion of it all as i see it.
