Noone planning to make Brighton suffer

Tue Feb 19, 2013 6:41 am

Craig Noone’s former Brighton team-mates will be warning the wideman not to turn on too much of the style against them tonight.

Noone moved from the Seagulls to the Bluebirds in August, but not before actually playing for Brighton against Cardiff in the reverse of tonight’s fixture which ended 0-0.

Current Brighton winger Will Buckley, who made his name under Malky Mackay at Watford, said the switch to the Welsh capital had proved a great move for his former team-mate, but hopefully not so great tonight.

“Nooney has done brilliantly since he’s gone there and obviously it has proved to be a good move for his career,” said Buckley, who has just inked a contract extension at Brighton.

“A few of the lads will have a word with him and tell him to be not too much in the game.

“In football there are massive changes from week-to-week.

“We were probably favourites at one stage to be above Cardiff, so it can be different at different times of the season, but it has worked out well for Nooney and he did well for this club, so we should just wish him all the best.”

Brighton currently lie seventh in the table, four points away from the play-off places. Buckley said the aim now was for a strong run in from him and his team-mates to try to grab a place in the top six.

“That’s why I signed the new contract because I want success at Brighton with Premier League football,” added Buckley.

“We are heading in the right direction, but we need to make sure this season we give it a good go during the run-in and give ourselves a really good chance of getting in the top six.”

The Seagulls could be boosted tonight by the return of club captain Gordon Greer. The centre-half missed his side’s last three games with a hamstring injury.

But the influential Will Hoskins is out for the season after picking up a serious knee injury in Brighton’s 1-1 draw at home to Blackburn last Tuesday.

Wales international midfielder Andrew Crofts is also still absent with a hamstring problem.

Even Brighton manager Gus Poyet has been in the wars after being laid low with a virus this week.

Brighton did not play over the weekend after their Championship clash with Barnsley was postponed due to the Tykes’ FA Cup exploits.

What's he on about there?

I check the odds on promotion every week and I can't remember Brighton ever being above us in them.
