Cold blow lane...if you ever went you would remember

Mon Feb 18, 2013 3:21 pm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYqNmCv8Ag4

Went 6 or 7 times and every trip was eventful...the film above shows old pics of the Millwall stadium and the trouble their fans caused that led to the government taking the FA to task and starting the fight back against the Football disease as they called it.

In those early days Millwall, Chelsea, Leeds and Bristol City were highlighted as the worse offenders although every club was said to have a problem...even Little Blackpool with a couple of thousand fans had big problems....watch the video all the way through...it is poorly edited but cuts back to the news stories surrounding football back in the 80:s

I went twice in the late 70's. I remember we played them not long after the Wall had riots during & after an FC cup tie v Ipswich.
All the houses around the ground were all boarded up!

16 years of age when i went first and i discovered adrenalin is brown and runny  still kept going back though as it had a sort of gallows attraction to it. one place we never ever came out on top although 1999 would have been interesting if the mobs had been able to clash

Went there once in the 70s, 76/77 I think it was. We had both been promoted from division 3 the previous sesaon. It was every bit as bad as I feared. Got the train to Paddington, then the tube. Change at Whitechapel, to New Cross Gate. Horrendous!

Went there this season with CCSC, different world. How things change over the years. For the better in this case.

I went a few times as a young lad during the 70's.
On one occasion I remember toward the end of the game we were being taken out of the ground via the touchline and as we went out Phil Dwyer scored on our way to the players tunnel. God knows what was thrown at us altogether. The old bill drove us in vans up to the tube station which was a dead end station and left us there. We could hear the mob running up the road toward said station and were begging the tube drivers to get the train moving. Thankfully we managed to escape before they arrived.

I never missed a game there from the late 70s till it was finally closed.

Real atmosphere and a shit hole like Ninian Park, but it felt like a football ground. We took good support there in 82 and 86, a right mob each time, Millwall always obliged
In 86 I had a 2 wk Crown Court Case, 3 of us, Allan Rawlings was one of them up with me, a good lad from the 80's.
Funny we always went to them and it was a nasty place to go, they hardly travelled to us.

Yes corky, i remember the trips well, went 5 times in the 70's and 80's to see the city, i remember one year, (early 80's i think) when the two coaches in front of us arrived (i think they were from pontypridd) a gang of millwall were waiting, the first two city fans off the coach got stabbed, they were certainly lively trips

3 times and lived to tell the tale I am sure we played them once on a Sunday and we won 4-1 we were taking the piss something rotten there was a double fence topped with barb wire and a line of Coppers separating us from the Wall. They were seething and all sorts of missiles were flying back and fro, however absolutely shit myself when a rather nasty looking specimen showed us the handle of a blade and machete hidden inside his court :o

Anybody remember that game :?:

Cityone, that could possibly be the game in the mid 70's when we lost 5-1.We arrived in a couple of coaches & parked not far from New Cross Gate station & was attacked just after we got off the coach, total mayhem .I was a schoolkid at the time & along with my best mate we had told our parents we were working on a farm, to cut a long story short my mate was the one reported to be stabbed in a case of mistaken identity & a report came in on the early evening news that he was in a critical condition in Guy's hospital, both sets of parents were frantic as they did'nt even know we were there. The scariest game i've ever been too ended with us getting cornered by Millwall's finest & taking a hiding off them, the Old bill came on the bus & asked would we testify as they had in custody one of their main boy's, although they promised we would be well looked afte if we were willing to identify him we did'nt want to know, there was no way were we coming back up here. I've still got the cuttings from the echo of the stabbing, 15 years old at the time, scared shitless & a long way from home & i really wished that i was working on the farm that day but looking back it's one of the thing's i'm glad i experienced. Most clubs at the time had active firms but Millwall were at a different level, quite small in numbers but they were pure evil & were virtually untouchable on their Manor, only West Ham came close.

I went in 1986 for the FA Cup match. It was horrible. If I remember correctly there were Cardiff in their end. Nutters. Scary place. It was like an Eastern Block industrial town around there.

I used to go around with Rawlings back in the day. He was brave as f**k and totally mental. Always dragged us into the away ends, but you know Rawlings, he never kept a low profile  how i'm still alive now, i do'nt know.

Anyone remember when we played Charlton away and millwall turned up, their game at oldham had been called off. About 81 I think.
A millwall fan came into our end and told us what would happen outside, he wasn't wrong, a mass brawl in the street. A lot battered on both sides.

Got a vague recollection, thought it was 83 when we got promoted to the old 2nd div.maybe it happened both times ,there certainly was a big mob waiting for us.

That's right Steve, eleven of us got locked up for the incident with millwall after the game, one of the millwall lot took a savage kicking, they came up the road looking for trouble and got a bit more then they bargained for.
