Campbell: I'm going to get better and better

Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:27 am

New Cardiff City goal idol Fraizer Campbell, has issued a stark warning to the rest of the Championship, insisting: “I’m going to get better and better.”

The 25-year-old made it three goals in three appearances when he netted twice in the Bluebirds’ 2-1 Severnside derby victory over Bristol City.

With those chasing City also winning on the weekend, the result kept Cardiff City’s eight-point cushion at the top of the table with 15 games of the season to go.

The game was Campbell’s first start of the season since arriving in the Welsh capital for £600,000 from Sunderland last month.

He declared: “I hope there is more to come as I’ve not played much football the last year or so. It’s going to take me a while to get up to speed with the rest of the players.

“Hopefully a few more games will do me good. I’ve been playing for as much time as I can in every game. I’m trying to get as fit as possible.

“The others have played 30 games so far this season so it will be a tough task for me to catch up with them, but hopefully soon I can be there.

“This is a massive chance for me in a team that is playing really well. I’ve not played football for the last couple of years so it’s important for me to get myself back on track and hopefully I can do that at Cardiff.”

Since signing, Campbell had made two appearances from the bench for Cardiff at Leeds and Huddersfield. On his Bluebirds’ debut he grabbed the winner at Elland Road to help Cardiff secure the points.

Despite looking to get a run of games Campbell admitted that with the amount of quality in the Bluebirds’ squad he would not be taking anything for granted.

“I don’t expect anything really,” Campbell continued. “The team played well at Huddersfield last time so it was the manager’s decision in the end.

“Obviously when you are picked you are going to put your best foot forward and stake a claim to keep your spot in the team, but we’ve got a great squad.

“The players on the bench are more than capable of coming on and playing good football.”

Thought he was sharp on Saturday a real threat as well as a real player. Can't wait for him to get match fit; thought the pace he and Bellamy showed were scary.

Also a bit under the radar but Smith's return is most welcome - what a class player.

Thought he played really well on Saturday and looked the player we have been crying out for since Maynard got injured, he certainly comes alive inside the box, and his workrate outside the box was also very good. But it's what he brings inside the box which will matter most so let's hope he can stay fit.

The worry for me was that he looked as stiff as Dracula's mattress at the end of the game, talk about cramping up :o

Just as well we have MM and his team to look after him.

Considering what we payed then it was worth bringing in someone in January.

The lad ent fully there yet but hes got goals and will only get more.

His first goal showed he was hungry. Despite a defender trying to block him the 2 fell over. :ayatollah:

Him and Smith link up so well, I liked Smith on the wings but I'm really liking Smith's new role, sometimes he plays as a striker and sometimes as a CAM?

I don't think he'll start tomorrow. Since he hasn't played recently Malky might want to keep him fit for Wolves. Mason and Bellamy to start up front I reckon :ayatollah:
