Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay delighted with Huddersfield Town point

“That was very much a point gained for us against a side who are now six unbeaten at home and playing for their management,” said Mackay.

' Huddersfield Town 0-0 Cardiff City '

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay said he was delighted with a point from a goalless draw at Huddersfield, but felt his side might have had all three.

In a battling encounter in Yorkshire both sides cancelled each other out, although Matthew Connolly, Craig Bellamy and Craig Conway all came close for the Bluebirds.

With 16 Championship games remaining, Mackay’s men are now 11 points clear following defeats for Leicester and Hull.

“That was very much a point gained for us against a side who are now six unbeaten at home and playing for their management,” said Mackay.

“They got a lot of bodies in front of the ball, particularly in the second half.

“It was a very tricky pitch, probably the worst we’ve played on, but it was the same for both teams.

“That being the case it’s a point gained. I’m very proud of my players for the discipline they showed.

“It would have been easy just to get it and kick it.

“On another day the two or three chances we had might have dropped in.

“Craig Bellamy made a beautiful run to get in and sometimes he sticks those in, and their goalkeeper saved well from Craig Conway too.

“But we showed a lot of patience. They had 10 men defending at times and it took bravery from us to get it down and keep switching it from side to side and work the openings.

“There was a period in the second half when I thought we were immense.

“The run keeps going in that we are undefeated and in terms that it was another clean sheet.

“That’s two goals we have let in now in eight games and that is something I very much take on board.

“You do find when you are the top team people will do anything to get points off you.

“Huddersfield should take a lot of credit for the way they played and it was full-blooded Championship game.”

Bluebirds full-back Kevin McNaughton was forced off at half-time with a cut head which required stitches and Mackay praised his fellow Scot’s courage.

“He showed a lot of bravery,” he said.

“It was a bad cut but there was nothing malicious in it at all, and hopefully Kevin will be fine in a few days.”

Pretty much all right.

A strong point.. it is not a negative as it is a sign that we are tough to score against with a fantastic defence and goalkeeper.

We played well second half and they made things different.. it was hard to break through but Bellamy did that and could of easily scored.

People forget we have played 30 games and only lost 6 which is the lowest amount in the league.

The pitch was shocking but Blackpool was worse.

They 'Parked the bus' and that is happening more and more with us now, we have to find a way to break teams down.

We are TOP OF THE LEAGUE and the team to beat, fortunately, it all went well for us today result wise,

We need to get the winning formula, with the home fixtures coming up, I believe we are in a strong position,

Malky has the squad to do it :malky:

The Blues are going up! :ayatollah:

We won 6 and drawn 2 away.. what annoys me is we had a poor away form to start and the main highlight since the new year is our fantastic away form.

we haven't even played many home games to compare our home and away form  seems ages since we had a home game, feels strange!

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay happy with point at Huddersfield

Malky Mackay believes Cardiff's 0-0 draw at Huddersfield Town was a point gained rather than two points dropped.

Cardiff dropped points for only the second time in eight Championship games against managerless Huddersfield.

Despite the stalemate, Cardiff stretched their lead to 11 points after Leicester City were beaten 2-1 at bottom side Peterborough United.

"That was another point gained for us playing against a side who are now six unbeaten at home," Mackay said.

“I'm delighted with my team's performance”

Malky Mackay Cardiff City manager

"It was a very, very tricky pitch, probably one of the poorest we've played on and that being the case it was another point gained.

"I was very proud of the players in terms of the discipline they showed. It was just easier to get it and kick it today.

"On another day one of the two or three chances drop in but it was a particularly tricky pitch. I'm delighted with my team's performance."

Defender Matthew Connolly had Cardiff's best chance when he hit the post in first-half stoppage time and Craig Bellamy twice went close.

The Bluebirds lost Kevin McNaughton at the end of the first half after an accidental elbow left the defender with a wound which needed stitches.

McNaughton had been drafted in as a replacement for the injured Ben Turner for the game at the John Smith's Stadium.

"It was just unlucky, there was nothing malicious," said Mackay.

"He needed a lot of stitches. It was a full-blooded game but hopefully he'll be ok in a couple of days."
