The red shirt......

Fri Feb 08, 2013 8:21 am

Here's a bonus!

My son can wear it for St David's day photos rather than a Welsh rugby shirt, his Welsh football shirt is a bit small!

Every cloud has a silver lining :ayatollah:

(I'm waiting for abuse about the Malaysia logo for St David's day now)

I suppose seeing a kid in a red City top is better than seeing one in a Welsh Rugby top

who'd want to burn a City shirt

But the so called "Welsh" rugby shirt, with the English Prince's motif on it, now that's a different matter

Not so. The so called English Princes as you refer too had every right to use the feathers and dragon crests as they were distant decendants to the King of Gwynedd Cadwaladr ap Cadwallon.

The first Prince of Wales to use the badge in its modern form (i.e. three white feathers encircled by a coronet, and with the motto Ich dien) was Prince Arthur (1486–1502), eldest son of Henry VII.
Henry VII had always maintained that he was a decendant of Cadwaladr ap Cadwallon who was King of Gwynedd (reigned c. 655 – 682). Cadwaladr is most widely recognised as a prominent character in the romantic stories of Geoffrey of Monmouth, where he is portrayed as the last in a line of legendary kings of Britain.
Y Ddraig Goch (The Red Dragon) has long been known as a Welsh symbol, appearing in the Mabinogion, the Historia Brittonum, and the stories of Geoffrey of Monmouth. It has commonly been referred to as 'The Red Dragon of Cadwaladr', and since the accession of Henry VII to the English throne, it has often been referred to as 'The Red Dragon of Cadwaladr.
