Wales boss Chris Coleman insists World Cup qualification is still possible

by Gareth Rogers Feb 7 2013

Wales 2-1 Austria

Wales boss Chris Coleman insists World Cup 2014 qualification is still possible - if his players can stay fit and all turn up for next month's games.

The Welsh side travel to Hampden Park to play Gordon Strachan's Scotland on March 22 and host Croatia in Swansea the following week.

Following the impressive 1-0 Liberty Stadium victory against Austria, the former Fulham manager said: "It is definitely possible.

"We still have plenty of players to come back, the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Wayne Hennessey and Neil Taylor - so this squad will get stronger.

"But it is great for us to win tonight and great for our confidence but we have to do it again next month, when it really counts.

"The two games we have coming up are absolutely huge and we've got to get points.

"We will have a tough game at Hampden Park followed by a game against one of the best sides in Europe in Croatia, so we will have to be at our best and we need everyone to turn up.

"But it is still possible, especially when you have players like Gareth Bale, Craig Bellamy and Aaron Ramsey."

Speaking of star man Bale, who scored the opening goal against Austria, Coleman said: “There are not many players that can do what he does.

“The cross for the second goal was great, he is such a threat and we know when we have him in the team we can afford to go without the ball for periods because he is such a danger when we get it to him.

“He changes the feel of a game and he is a big plus for us when he is playing on that form. He did two things tonight that not many players can do.”

Following the victory, Austria boss Marcel Koller echoed Coleman's sentiments, saying: "Wales have a very good young team and they made it very difficult for us.

"We had a lot of possession in the second half but from two goals down it was hard to work our way back into the game.

"Wales definitely have a chance of qualifying for a tournament one day but they have a very tough group this time. Maybe they can look at the next European Championships."

A desperate man clutching at straws, bomb him out and get a proper manager in before the next games. If the players and squad are that good lets give him time and a chance to mould them into winners.

But that's wanting success, all the Welsh FA want is a yes man!

The first half they played much better then they have done recently.
We should really be beating Scotland easy we have some really good players and one world class one. They don't have anything.

They've got several very good strikers. We have none.
