Cheering for the wrong team.

A number of Welshmen, who had emigrated to Watford several years earlier to find work, were amongst the 12,000 Vicarage Road crowd on 4 October 1936 to support City. Not having watched the Bluebirds for several seasons, they were obviously confused by the fact that Watford played in blue and Cardiff had changed to red. They kept cheering the wrong team and were delighted with the 2-0 result- until they were put right at the final whistle by amused home fans, who pointed out that City had actually lost!
