Over confidence?

Sun Feb 03, 2013 7:41 pm

I don't want to put a dampener on things but reading some posts about next season and promotion makes me feel a little uneasy.

We certainly are in a great position no doubt about it but still 51 points to play for yet and we have all know football has a way of coming and biting you in the arse.

The season of us not making the play/offs a few years ago always springs to mind, it was everything but mathematically certain. I think most of us would have bet our lives on it but Preston had other plans.
We do however have a better squad of players, IMO a better manager and a greater work ethic at the club so my worry is not the players but the pressure from fans if we do get one or two losses on the bounce. In my experience its the ones who shout loudest about about going up and it being all but certain are the ones to get quickest on the players backs when things are not going so well.

Anyway im not a negative poster, well I dont think so anyway but im not one to get carried away if we are doing badly or if we are doing well.

Delighted with the season :ayatollah: But for me still a LONG way to go yet :malky:

The difference this season though is when we have lost we have bounced back straight away this season. I think if we win 8 games from 17 (87 points) will be enough

Very correct 2b2h...

when you consider the amount of points to play for everybody should approach with caution what will happen in the coming weeks. We are in great form but we all know a couple of draws/losses consecutively with the others winning will see us firmly back in that cluster below us.

If we were in this position with Jones, I would still feel very wary, but with this manager, this squad, I feel we can maintain what we are doing until the end of the season. Then again, I agree with what you're saying. We only have to loose three games and it's wide open again.

One thing I am glad of, is unlike at the start of the season, we now have good home and away form. At the beginning of the season I dreaded any away games we had and was not confident at all, now, it rarely enters my mind that I don't think we can/will win the game. Some sides who've gained promotion (like West Ham and their amazing away form last season) have had to rely on either home or away form. I feel we can rely on both, if not slightly more on our away form as I believe that teams will come to us and try and play for the draw (as Ipswich did). We just have that winning mentality now, and I have never, in all my years of watching Cardiff seen a side who can grind out wins such as this side now.

But as I've already said, all we have to do is maintain what we're doing now and we will be up with flying colours.

Come on the City! :ayatollah: :malky:

Totally agree with you on this Luke. Some are a little too confident.

You talk a lot of sense mate. I'm feeling more and more confident each week, after each little step, each extra point gained, or dropped by our opposition, but there is still a long way to go, doing the predictor its still not that difficult to manipulate it for us to miss out and even with decent results it is still likely that at some point the gap will be cut and that it could go to the last 2-3 games - and then nerves may set in ?

On the other hand I'm going to make sure I enjoy every minute of this, go to as many aways as possible, keep the pre-match beers down so it can all be remembered in years to come.

I also believe WE as fans can play our part, travel in numbers, sing our hearts out, but also stay patient and stay supportive to the players if things go wrong, so to all our fans I'd say.. 'be part of it, do your bit and feel you have contributed to what could turn out to be the best season of our lives' :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :malky:

I'm with Malky on this one, we take one game at a time.

I'm not counting my chickens, i've followed Cardiff City long enough for that.

I do believe in fate & destiny though! :old: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :malky:

I'm not celebrating until cup is in hand.

I'm not over confident but as others have said am more confident than I would have been a few years ago.

I'm finding myself repeating "that was a huge result today" after each game, every game we play it's another box ticked and it gets harder for our chasers.

Totally agree though it is hard not to get carried away.

When we're in bold on the table that's when I'll believe it. Until then, sit back, enjoy the ride and welcome the chase. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We should be looking at what we need and where we can get it. W are not promoted yet. If Leicester were us wed be saying there were gone but for me there's still too much of a chasing pack ad it'd not take a miracle to overhaul us, but it would be close to it.

great post :ayatollah: people up the back in Leeds singing 'the blues are up up up up' annoyed me like f**k yesterday! lots of people are way over confident in all fairness, i for one wont start getting a little cocky until we are 10 points clear with a handful of games to go! 3 losses in a row and 3 wins for our rivals means we're back in the pack! just take it game by game :ayatollah:

Agree. Leicester City fancy their chances, that's for sure, & why shouldn't they? A very good team & manager.
Hull City the same, they will go for it, as well as all the other teams in the chasing pack.

We have got to concentrate on ourselves, that's all that matters,,, not worrying about any one else, just doing the Right thing more than the wrong things, that's all its going to take.

Totally agree (except the beer ).
If you can't enjoy this then then I don't think you ever will :ayatollah:

Maybe I feel more cautious because it just seems to good to be true.

I've never fully believed we would be a premier league club and the closer it gets the more unbelievable it seems.

Just like MM says, if you start looking for other teams results this early in the season you'll come unstuck.

You know me if we were 10 points off the play/offs I'd still believe we could make them.

It is going very well isn't it  :ayatollah: :malky:

Best spot for a while. The whole predicting a months games is just annoying for me.
