Campbell - No plans for the Playoffs

Wed Jan 30, 2013 4:49 am

NEW arrival Fraizer Campbell is so confident Cardiff City will win automatic promotion he will book his summer holiday before the Championship play-offs start.

Campbell – set to make his Bluebirds debut at Leeds on Saturday after completing a £600,000 switch from Sunderland – does not plan to hang around after City’s league programme ends at his former club Hull on May 4.

“I’m booking to go away the day after our final game and there are no plans for play-off football,” said Campbell, who joined up with his new team-mates on a warm-weather training break in Dubai last week.

“My plan is to start my family holiday the day after that last league game at Hull – and I don’t see any reason that won’t happen.

“There are no thoughts about play-off football.”

Campbell’s remarks might make uncomfortable reading for Bluebirds fans of a nervous disposition.

For former City striker Jay Bothroyd memorably remarked in April 2009 that he aimed to “be on a beach in the second week in May, not preparing for the play-offs.”

But City incredibly tumbled out of the play-off positions after taking only one point from the last 12, including a 6-0 thrashing at Preston which was to ultimately prove decisive when it came to goal difference between the two clubs.

But the once-capped England striker Campbell, 25, insists City won’t blow up like they did under Dave Jones four years ago.

“There is a Premier League mentality in and around the squad,” said Campbell, who has graced the top flight for Manchester United and Spurs as well as Sunderland.

“I’ve been at Premier League clubs where it hasn’t been as good as it is here. The players here have done a brilliant job but if I can help them push that extra little bit to get over the line that’s great.

“I’m not interested in talk about past disappointments because we can only deal with this season.

“If we keep doing the right things then people will stop talking about what has happened in the past and discuss what we achieve this season.”

to be honest i dont see too much wrong with what he's said there, i think he balanced it out with a few other comments that arent on that article there.

its typical in this age that people will twist his word to suit an agenda but the guy seems determined to help us finish off the job, good for him. if he started saying 'we should plan for the play offs as i dont think we can maintain this' then he'd get flak too

Just watched the interview and he comes across a real nice guy in fairness.

In the interview he was laughing when he said it so he didn't mean it in an arrogant way.

He can talk the talk, let's see if he can do his talking on the pitch. :ayatollah:
