SERIOUS QUESTION

Mon Jan 21, 2013 10:59 am

If you owned the club and could sell every seat at let's say fifty quid a ticket, would you do it as a business decision, or would you only sell them for a reasonable amount, football is changing and the rate at which it's changing is frightening.
Genuinely don't know how people manage to spend the amount they do week in week out, I'm one of them and it's mad.

Depends on the Club and where they are based Gwyn.

For example, Tan could never sell seats at £50 a pop at Cardiff in my opinion as people
would never afford it?

I would consider something along those lines in the premiership but £50 would be the max and for the best seats.

I think £35 max would be acceptable for premisership football for the lowest prices, that way the difference allows those who can make a change due to finances to be able to.

However, if I had the club, the first thing to tackle would be the bars and the grog!!! :old:

id rather sell them a bit cheaper... and make alot of small profits rather than try to make one big profit..

no i'd sell them cheap to the fans, and heres why.

if you can sell out a 20,000 seat stadium at £50 a ticket, then well done
however if you expand the stadium, and plan to attract new fans or even increase the crowds, you would make more money that way with cheaper tickets.

Not hi-jacking your thread in anyway, but I'll use us as an example...

The last season in the Championship, tickets were £20-£25 depending on where you were sitting... On promotion to the Premier League, the tickets went up to a flat rate of £35, (quite a jump) but the home allocation sold out for every match. This season, they have added category A matches which cost £45 a ticket, again there have been no issues with the home attendance.

One thing that Huw Jenkins has stressed since talk of expanding the stadium started is that it annoys him that at this present moment they can't run the special offers that they used to for schools and kids etc. And with expansion, that is one of the first things we will bring back, as todays kids, are tomorrows loyal fans and too many kids are missing out due to supply/demand.

Whatever your thoughts on him, I have to agree with him 100% on that, as for the prices I have illustrated, I don't doubt for one minute that you would have no problems charging similar prices in the Premier League, in fact, and as much as you might not like to admit it, Cardiff City would be mad not to look at our pricing structure given the short distance between the clubs and many fans coming from similar demographics and situations.

As a matter of interest are Catagory A games vs. Man Utd/City, Chelsea, Arsenal etc?

That might be true of the valleys but I can see Cardiff becoming a very trendy and prosperous place to live. It's going to be quite expensive to live in Cardiff in the very near future and I imagine our tickets will shoot up.

It's not a working class club any more.
