BLACKPOOL TRAVELERS: WEATHER WARNING UPGRADED TO RED ALERT!

Thu Jan 17, 2013 1:30 pm

A red alert (take action) for snow has been issued for Wales for Friday. HIGH GROUNDS AND HEADS OF THE VALLEYS - up to 1ft of snow.

A yellow alert (be prepared) for snow for the lower grounds, and most of Wales. Anything up to 6-8" of snow.

The highest warning from the Met Office is issued by forecasters if they think it has "potential to cause danger to life or widespread disruption."

There could be up to 30cm of snow in the Red Waning area, believed to be much of Wales, during Friday afternoon and evening.

It came as parts of Wales, including the Brecon Beacons, experienced some snowfall on Thursday.

A statement issued by the Met Office at Thursday lunchtime said: "A band of snow, heavy in places, will spread northeastwards across Wales and the southwestern half of England, during Friday morning, lasting through the afternoon and evening across much of Wales, the Midlands, southern and parts of southeast England. Winds will strengthen, leading to drifting of lying snow

"Many parts of the Red Warning area are likely to have 20-30 cm of snow with strong southeasterly winds causing blizzards, severe drifting of lying snow and thus severe disruption. The public should avoid all non-essential journeys."

Re: WEATHER WARNING UPGRADED TO RED ALERT!

looks like most of the issues will be getting out of Wales in the morning for anyone going to Blackpool.

Most radio reports are saying the bad weather will set in around 3am - lasting most of the day, with the worst from 6am to midday.

If anyone is still brave enough to take the journey up to Blackpool, Plan well, take essentials, and leave extremely early. But be prepared.

We have cancelled our trip.

Have been told that if they get any snow in Blackpool on Friday followed by a freezing night which is foretasted and
the game will more than likely be postponed not helped by the fact that the game is early Saturday Evening rather than 3pm Kick off as the temps will have started to drop again come kick off which could make the pitch unplayable.

Good luck to those still going and fingers crossed the expected weather isn't as bad as whats expected.

Thats all very well mate, but your crew have to travel from local areas to get to pick up points.

At that time of the day (PEAK for bad weather) I can see you having some issues. But good luck mate. hope you sort it all out.
Personally - I think the game will get cancelled. But you never know;

we only got 2 pick up points. Ninian pub(aka Mavericks) and The Duke
hopefully everyone will be able to make it. 1 opens 8.30am and the other 9.00am for breakfast/bacon rolls and refreshments
not to bothered if they call the game off, will just have to arrange another trip for when they rearrange it ;)

Same here mate, not bothered about the game, I still wanted to go but was outvoted as the hotel offered money back, still wanted to go for a night on the lash but the other lads didn't fancy it..

Got a mate living up there aswell which is where my info about the game came from, apparently, the pitch is already fucked
and was in a terrible state for their game in the week. The other lad above seems to think differently mind so fingers crossed for you lot that travel.

Are we sure they don't have undersoil heating? I thought that was a pre-requisite of being allowed into the Premier League? :?

As some of you know I live in Wigan and I am photographing the match tomorrow.

We have had no snow yet but we have been told that there is a 90-100% chance of snow tomorrow and then going into Saturday.

I will keep things updated on here....

im sure they swapped a home game for an away game with someone right at the beginning of their premiership season now that was either to put the finishing touches to their new stand or undersoil heating I cant remember

They had a game against Man Utd cancelled due to a frozen pitch so I am pretty sure they have not got undersoil heating also Wales is now supposed to be getting more snow than anticipated hence "Red Alert" and heaviest snowfall since December 2010. :(

heavyest snow fall...... for two years

seriously though, the way some people are talking this could be the worst snow for decades.

the trouble might not be the Blackpool pitch, but getting the cardiff team bus out of Wales.

True it was only 2 years ago but it was pretty bad then and we've had very little snow since or indeed had over the previous 4 or 5 years until that winter!
