Our January Budget

Mon Jan 14, 2013 12:28 pm

I don't know what our January budget is but for me it should all be spent on a striker(premier league quality)
.Our defence is strong as we have only conceded 1 in last 5 games.
Midfield we have various options and strong enough to see the season out.
Up front is the only worry for me,bring in a goal scorer with at least 10 goals til the end of season and we'll be ok.

I agree, but who? There's no evidence that Austin is Premier League quality. Carlton Cole would be my first choice, if we can afford him.

Deano - Cole would be perfect but anyone who can score 20+ a season in the championship is going to have a good go in the prem.

I'm starting to think that if Austin is £7m - just give them the money and get him.

To be fair, I suppose Malky has to consider that if Austin does not hack it in the
Premiership with us next season, his value will plummet. But what will we lose?
£3m maybe £4m?? Worth the gamble now in my eyes. But then again, if a pretty
decent Premiership side is already sniffing around we might not be enough of a
pull for the lad anyway :(

it doesnt tend to happen, Danny Graham scored a load of goals, then went to swansea

jay rodriguez didnt even score as many, and went to southampton.

Vaz Te, Billy Sharp, both went to teams looking for promotion.

I imagine Austin will be the same, and if Malky is looking at him, i suggest getting in him now.

I'm not saying no to Austin, he would be a very good signing and would probably guarantee promotion. But I think in our position, someone like Cole would be less of a gamble for when we get to the PL....and probably more the style of player that we need.

but cole isnt doing it at premier league level, and he never has really.

1 premiership striker required and a creative midfielder required, someone like Aaron Ramsey :ayatollah:

Imo any new striker we bring in this window would have to be good enough and the type to partner maynard in the premier next season .......correct me if im wrong but did cole and maynard play together at west ham ...and if so whats there stats together :ayatollah:

Would love to see Ramsey back for next season but that will take some doing.
