Morning Bluebirds just a simple question do you need to spend money on transfers this month?. Looking at your table position loan options may be more suited as to buy players now unless they are premier league standard would be a waste. Next season they could be bench warmers or in the reserves.
I feel that with your excellent form loans could be the best option as undoubtably you will spend big in the summer.

We're 8 points clear now but the rest of the pack is strengthening. If we want to stay ahead of the pack, we need to strengthen also...
Agreed though that loanees would be a better idea; even the best/most expensive players we've been linked with (Cameron Jermon, Charlie Austin) might not be able to cut it in the top league (not saying they wouldn't, simply that they're all either untested, or struggling to start in the prem at the moment, so could well need something better if we get to the prem).

i think we will go up without signing anyone, however, i would like to see 1 or 2 players come in.

^^^^^Agree^^^^^,a couple of loans and we will go up

Yes or the blame will be the same as last season when we didnt get a few in during jan i dont want to hear MM harp on about we lacked depth come may again yet says he needed more players all season, 2-3 injurys and we could slip down the table why we need 2-3 now atleast.
Mon Jan 14, 2013 11:26 am
I'd say we were in desperate need of a striker. One or two loan options to cover other areas too would help.

I don't know the first thing about managing a football club.

Good morning SA1. Thank you for your politeness in your question, it makes a change to have a jack on here that's got a bit of sense and being polite at the same time
Answering your question though, I think we do need to spend on at least a quality striker that will be able to cut it in the Prem and then maybe loan a few others to get us over the line.
Have a good day
Mon Jan 14, 2013 11:46 am
I think you're dead right mentioning loan options. We do need a quality experienced striker and defensive cover and as you say it would be pointless bringing in someone permanently who wouldn't be able to hack it in the premier league next season (if we were to get promoted). It has to be premiership loanees (and not young kids) until the end of the season, or gamble on signing players who might be able to handle next season if we're successful. You've also got a problem with loanees that they don't disrupt the current squad's work ethic. Lots of ifs and buts at the moment.

We definitely need an out and out striker on Saturday we only created 2 decent chances but they were quality balls and we need that type of striker who can sniff out a chance be in the right place at the right time and stick the ball away. Even if we have to buy a striker for the here and now it's vital that we get promoted and if he doesn't then cut it in the Premiership the we get better and get rid but he would have more than paid his fee if he helps get us up

Nonsense..... What if we get say an injury to Bellamy and helgusson, or even Hudson to add to that! And if it happened all at the same time...... We are royally f***ed then!
We MUST bring in a striker at least. One that knows where the goals are with his eyes closed!

Cant play the "what if" game. IF we dont sign anyone, and then IF people get injured, i would expect loan signings to come in.
However, back to my orginal point, this side would take us up with no more additions i think.
but WHAT IF the team bus crashes on the way home from the Blackpool game.....

We didnt strengthen last season, whilst all around us did and then it ended in tears.
Malky blamed the cup run, and small squad last season, so theres no excuses this time around. We are out of the cups and we MUST strenghten.
Weve been fortunate to turn 1 point into 3 with some really scrappy wins of late, I cannot see that trend continuing for rest of season.

im just being over confident
we obviously have a bigger squad than last season and can deal with it. If it wasnt for maynards injury it wouldnt bother me if no-one comes in, however i do think we need a striker.
that being said, i still think we will go up regardless, but you have to say it will be a little odd if we dont strenghen considering our current situation.
Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:13 pm
Agree I think this team would take us up,but if we add a good striker it would guarantee us to go up and more prepared for the prem.

We have no strength in depth up front, or at the back. Midfield / wide, yes we have plenty of options although I would still like to see a quality CM come in (Graham Dorrans), and give Whitts more licence to attack.

we have strikers who have done a job though, i know your thoughts on rudy so i wont mention him, but helguson, mason and bellamy have all done well. Thing is, we could do with a striker, and considering we will probably go up, we will definately need a striker, so may as well bring someone in now.
For me though, anyone we bring in this month should be good enough for us next season, Brayford i dont know much about but hear good things, and we need a full back.
Sordell? Jerome? both good options i think, although Sordell is untested at prem level and Jerome hasnt really cracked it.
In a nutshell i want to be fussy about who we bring to the club, it looks like Malky is too. The last thing i want is to do a "QPR"
Do you remember the Monday match v Boro a few seasons ago? one of the lowest moments of my time supporting this club, mainly because the team was made up of selfish money grabbers, we dont have that now and we need to add 100% professionals to what we already have.

You have a point. Really don't mind if we buy or loan as long as we get a striker. Think we could survive with our current defence. We've also got super Kev, Nugent and John who will provide reasonable cover for the odd game. Any long term injury and we could get an emergency loan.
Mon Jan 14, 2013 4:44 pm
We might not need to strengthen in terms of quality but we do in terms of experience and someone who can come here for the last four months of the season and steady the ship. We need an old head to come in I believe and not some 17 year old whose not going to get a game.
A Danny Murphy type figure if you want, he's seen it all before, will be a great help to the dressing room and drive us across the line.

I hope this post is a wind up, cos if it's not i despair!
just because we're not playing free flowing attacking football doesn't mean we've been lucky. We are a compact and solid unit who rarely looks like conceding but has enough in their locker to break teams down especially from set pieces.
I've never, never seen any team so comfortable in the last 15 minutes of games whilst defending a one goal lead. When was the last time we conceded an important late goal and contrast with the last 10-20 years?!
We all know we are lacking something up front, but for me it's not a 20 goal a season player we lack but someone who is capable of playing up top alone to make us less predictable and enable us to utilise our midfield. I'd love to see us be able to play a 4-5-1 wiht kimbo at the front of the mdfield 3 but with the forwards we currently have available its not gonna happen.
Mon Jan 14, 2013 7:34 pm
We need a right back-Brayford would be ideal. We also need a left back. A loan centre back as cover would be great.
Midfield we are okay.
Up front we need a goalscorer. To get to this stage of season with top scorer not in double figures is a testimony to good team-imagine though if we had Wood or a fit Maynard. We would be further ahead.

I agree. We need that 'goalscoring striker' now. Goals are starting to dry up from
all over the pitch. Bellamy needs to be outside the box creating chances, dragging
defenders out. Not trying to get on the end of stuff. Its not his game
Mon Jan 14, 2013 7:48 pm
At this point last season we were 2 points off the top of the table and although we hadn't been playing particularly well the goals had kept coming from various sources and things looked good. Then we went on a run where we only picked up 16 points in 15 games and our star striker only scored one goal in 22 games. We are 11 points better off this season which is a great cushion but we should definitely strengthen. The areas where we need strengthening are up front and in defence where we dont have enough quality to fill a premiership bench anyway. So no problem if we sign some future bench warners because we will need them if we get there.
