Midfield

Not just saying this because of a poor performance against Ipswich but there is something wrong with our midfield. Not for the first time we were over-run in that department. Considering the choice of midfielders we have it is bewildering how this can be the case. And it's not for the lack of spending....Kimbo and Mutch cost over £4m between them and they hardly get a kick.

For me we don't seem to have the type of pass and move players that other teams do, Both Whitts and Gunnarsson have excellent qualities in their own right but they don't dominate the centre of the park. Also, as has been pointed out elsewhere, Whitts is being played far too deep which negates his attacking threat. Has this affected his confidence as I can't remember his last goal from a free-kick and his corners don't seem to be as threatening neither (remember those two in the dying minutes against Liverpool which led to Turner's equaliser...they were phenomenal) and our goals from corners have dried up of late because of this.

I wonder if Kimbo may be effective in centre midield. He works hard, passes and moves and he can pick a pass. Another alternative would be to revert 4 5 1 to get more midfield dominance, but we would definitely need the right type of target man. Someone like Helguson but much more mobile...someone like Chris Wood....a steal at £1m and may have been the missing piece of the jig-saw as far as our squad is concerned. I think Malky missed a trick there. Having said all that look where we are. We must be doing something right. Perhaps if we sign a top notch centre forward we can get away with being second best in midfield. :ayatollah:
