Well done Mike Dean!

Sun Jan 13, 2013 4:30 pm

An absolutely spot on decision in my opinion. Koscielny practically rugby tackled Dzeko and he was the last man, but not many refs would have had the balls to give a penalty for that and send him off. Hopefully if the refs give more decisions like this, players won't feel the need to take a dramatic dive to get a decision. The majority of players only go down easy because the refs won't give fouls if they are too honest and keep their feet, no matter how much they are getting fouled. So well done Mike Dean and I hope the other refs follow his example.

Was a penalty without a doubt but red is debatable. The only thing I can see him getting sent off for was preventing a goal scoring oppurtunity but a second after the foul Tevez had a shot at the goal so its not rely denying anything.

Disagree with Kompanys red tho as he got the ball and looked in control of the tackle

For me when both feet leave the ground, you are not in control of where you are landing. It's soft for the way the tackle ended up being executed but you can't leave the ground like that. Both reds spot on for me.

I wonder if they'll appeal, be interesting to see if its upheld if they did appeal... I've seen far worse ones escape with a yellow

Never a red in my opinion. You see things like that ever week at corners and in my opinion Dzeko would never have reached the ball.

Arguably a yellow but can't argue with the penalty.

Ruined what was looking to be a good game though.

It was worse than Kompany's red last season and they upheld that one

It's laughable really, They award the PENALTY as punishment for denying the goal scoring opportunity. Then they send the man off for what - the same reason? Denying a goal scoring opportunity?

Is it fair that a ref can utilise two punishments for one offence?

Yes it's the same as a player giving away a free kick and getting booked for a foul on the halfway line

I think IFAB are debating changing the rule so if the professional foul results in a penalty the player only gets a yellow instead of a red.

I merely stated that it was a foul as he practically rugby tackled the bloke and said it was debatable if it was a red. It was similiar to the penalty against us by macclesfield (in terms of being brought down in the box). It was 50/50 for me whether it was a red or not and the ref decided it was and it all just comes down to him so I'm not complaining.

Faye's challenge for hull v Wednesday was far worse and only a fk given. The biggest problem with refs is their inconsistency which leads to frustration

I don't give a s**t about the 'law' on 2 footed challenges..

If he goes 2 footed and doesn't catch the player then they should just play on.. no contact.
