COMPARING CITY TO QPR'S CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING TEAM

Sun Jan 13, 2013 10:37 am

QPR had 14 clean sheets after 27 games in their championship winning season in 2010/11, City have 11 clean sheets at the same stage this season.

QPR had won 14 games after the 27 games played, City have won 18 of their games.

QPR had drawn 10 and lost 3, City have drawn 3 and lost 6.

QPR had gained 52 points and City have 57 points.

I have read a few times that QPR won a lot of games 1-0 or by the odd goal, not true at all, QPR had won just 3 of their games by the odd goal at this stage and not one of them games were 1-0 wins either. In fact QPR only won 8 games all season by the odd goal and just 4 of those wins were 1-0.

City have won 13 of their 18 games by the odd goal, with 6 of these being 1-0.

In the remaining 19 games of the 2010/11 season QPR won 10 of those games, drew 6 and lost 3, ending their season on 88 points and finishing as champions.

If Cardiff City match that run of results in the next 19 games then we will finish our season on 93 points.

The only reason of this post was to educate myself on the facts of whether there is similarities to the QPR team of 2 years ago and the City team of this year, in terms of the tight wins that some state QPR managed week in and week out, it is safe to say that it is complete nonsense.

There is though the fact that both QPR and City were knocked out of both cup competitions at the first stage in the respective seasons.

Maybe I should look at Southampton and Newcastle !

QPR were thrashing teams I recall, Im sure they put 4 on the Jacks.

They also had Taaraabt whilst weve got Rudy :(

Without a proven goalscorer frontman we could start to struggle in keeping the pack away.

Wood is an impressive signing, makes you wonder why so cheap? I think Millwall had a gem whilst he was on loan, they wouldn't pay more than a million for him. Leicester didn't allow any other team to get in first, they accepted WBA's value and it's starting to pay off.

Will be interesting to see what happens here in January, if anything, won't lose sleep over it, been disappointed for the last 4 years.

At least moving Leicester back to next month may mean we have a goal scorer in, given them something to think about instead of us worrying about them!

QPR had a superior side. Redknapp has brought back into the team like Hill, Derry and Mackie where Hughes left them out. With Taarabt they have become a lot more worthy of a team and now just might be able to survive. If they come down they will go straight back up. Those four players wee in the championship side and are superior to anything we have got.

Carl, we're 8 points clear at the top of the league but watching us yesterday we didn't look like a team top of the league which worries me a bit. Leicester look dangerous and I can see them flying up the table especially after the signing of Chris Wood. We need a striker massively not a defender, Gestede is not good enough and should be on the bench AT BEST

I would love to see Shaun Derry in our midfield, someone who can boss the game from the middle and stop teams playing through us.

One interesting stat to compare our performance against the QPR team is the number of players each team had who scored 4 or more goals.

QPR had 2 Taarabt and Mackie whilst we have 8 Helguson, Whittingham, Gunnarsonn, Noone, Mason, Hudson, Connonly and Bellamy.

QPR were an excellent team that season and so are we, maybe we are not playing freeflowing entertaining football but we are very hard to beat and that together with goals throghout the team is what is going to get us over the line.

I have no doubt about that.

Hate to sound negative but we DO need to change something up top. Not a lot, just
someone who can make space for himself AND put the chances away. As soon as we
start to do that we will pull further away. Defensively we are obviously sound now.

I don't think your being negative at all.Another option up front is I believe is something that Malkys looking at and I'm pretty sure he'll do something about it.What I don't like is the instant character assassination we get on here after an indifferent performance by so called loyal fans.

All we need is a goalscorer, that's it. We don't need any defenders because what we've got is good enough to get us there, as you've seen we don't concede many goals. With a proven goalscorer like Maynard, or Sordell, or Jerome, or Zamora we'd be promoted by April :ayatollah:
