Craig Bellamy has declared himself 'happier than I've ever been' and says helping Cardiff City win promotion to the Premier League remains his 'big ambition'.
The former Liverpool star confessed that he put too much pressure on himself during his first spell with the Bluebirds, when Dave Jones' side missed out on going up via the play-offs.
But Bellamy believes Malky Mackay's squad, who are seven points clear at the top of the Championship table ahead of the visit of Ipswich tomorrow, are a different proposition, more talented and with a fantastic work ethic.
Bellamy said: 'I feel really privileged and honoured every day I come to this club.
'To work with this group of players is great.
'The group is exceptional, everyone works so hard.
'Credit to the manager and his staff, we have a group of players who want to progress and want to improve themselves.
'I still want to improve and I'm 33. I want to do something special.
'If we're good enough, we're good enough, if we're not, we're not.
'But there are some teams there who are going to have to work extremely hard to overtake us.
'Talent-wise, this team is better than the one I was in last time I was here, definitely.
'But work ethic shines through as well.
'My big ambition is to get Cardiff up, last time I was here I think I put too much pressure on myself.
'I was very unhappy with myself as an individual. I went home, I didn't socialise with anyone and it took over my life.
'This time it's a completely different story, I'm much happier than I've ever been.'
Bellamy insisted that Cardiff must not pay too much attention to the league standings, and instead concentrate on grinding out wins week by week - starting against the Tractor Boys.
He added: 'It's always good to be top at any stage of the season.
But in this league it can be taken off you within a week, we know that.
'It's important to take each game as it comes
'I know it's an old cliche, but the players will do that.
'Against Ipswich we've got to work as hard as we have for the last four or five games and as hard as we have all season.
'If we do that we give ourselves a very good chance of getting another three points.
'I'm not paying too much attention to where we are in the table right now.
As for his Wales future, Bellamy said he is still open to representing his country, even though he hasn't figured under manager Chris Coleman since the Gary Speed memorial game against Costa Rica last February.
On missing the October World Cup qualifying fixtures against Belgium and Scotland, Belamy said: 'I was injured, I couldn't play.
'It's one of those situations where I'm just going to see how my body is.
'I'll just see where I am when the next games come.
'If I have something to offer the Wales team, then I'll have a serious look at it.
'It's weeks away and I'm concentrating week by week.'
