'Eject Swans and Bluebirds from English leagues - Rangers

Scottish giants Rangers have insisted Swansea City and Cardiff City should be thrown out of the English system if the Ibrox club are refused the chance to enter into cross-border competition.

Rangers chief executive Charles Green has said that the South Wales pair should be kicked out if his hopes of seeing the Glasgow outfit are denied, describing the situation where Welsh clubs are allowed to play in the Football League and Premier League and Scottish clubs are not as “rubbish”.

Green made the controversial comments in an interview with radio station talkSPORT as he continues his opposition to plans to restructure the game in Scotland, adding that he would explore taking legal action against European football’s governing body if the idea of letting the Scottish Third Division side into English football is not given the green-light.

“People say you are not allowed in the English league – well let’s then kick Cardiff and Swansea out, because they are playing in a different country,” Green is reported as saying.

“People are saying Wales is fine but Scotland is not. We cannot have a situation where one of the Union is annexed by the football bodies but Wales can join. It’s rubbish.”

Swansea and Cardiff are joined by Wrexham, Newport County, Colwyn Bay and Merthyr Town as Welsh clubs in the English system, their participation based on historical grounds.

Green – who has backed the idea of Rangers possibly quitting Scottish football – claimed a precedent for cross-border leagues in women’s football could see him take Uefa to court under sex-discrimination laws.

“As the structures stand now, there are not many options [to leave the Scottish league],” he said. “But I’m not one for hiding my light behind a bushel.

“People say you can’t go into England because you are not allowed cross-borders (leagues).

“Well there is now a cross-border (league). You have a UEFA-sanctioned professional women’s league in Belgium and Holland, so we have a precedent there.

“If there was an opportunity to join a cross-border league and that was challenged by UEFA, I would go to Strasbourg and challenge the sexual equality.”

I think Rangers should be allowed to join the "English Football League" - they would do quite well in the Conference North

He does kind of have a point but sexist made it laughable. I for one though wouldn't mind them joining the crowds they had all this season alone wow.

I hate that trait in a person. If I can't have it, then others can't either.

You get in work somethimes. Your boss lets you leave for home a bit early if you drop something off on the way home. Then a colleague asks to leave early, is told no and then instead of accepting it they complain about YOU getting an hour off. Then no one gets the hour off.

Fine let them join the english league, but they have to start at the bottom like any other team,I expect they will want to jump straight in at the top, they will want to chuck Swansea out and Rangers take their place, hang on, that's not a bad idea seriously though if they are prepared to start at the bottom, I am all for it, by the time they get to the premier, I will probably be long gone

They could always join the Irish league.

If they want to join put them right down the bottom of the system and let them work they're way up like any other team. They dont deserve any favours after what they did. If you let them in then Celtic will want to join and it will destroy Scottish football

id love to see the top scottish clubs in the english set-up .... it would make the league much stronger! ..... sod it lets go the full hog and have a british premier league!

A few years ago there were talks held between the biggest clubs from Scotland, Holland, Belgium and Portugal. They wanted to create a super league. What amazed me was that they demanded that they all have entry to Champions league every season at the expense of the clubs that continued playing their national leagues.

Greed, it all boils down to greed and it will only get worse because greed is a trait of the younger generations today and they will be running our clubs in 20-30 years.

I did want Rangers to be let in and given a chance but if thats his attitude then I hope they get rejected and Ian Holloway runs him over in his combine harvester. Stupid prat.

If they were allowed to join they would start at the 7th tier but this will never happen as every Welsh,Scottish and Northern Irish club will state their case for joining......It won't happen

I can see where he's coming from, we've been in the English system for around 100 years though so there's a bit of a difference. Celtic and Rangers should both be allowed to join the Football League or below, they're too big for Scottish football.

I honestly think Rangers would have a hard time getting out of the Championship.

I personally wouldn't mind if they joined as long as they joined at the bottom, same goes for Celtic if they joined.

When the football league was first formed,[a idea of a scotsman by the way] the welsh,scottish and english were invited to participate, the welsh and english agreed but the scots declined wanting to start their own league.
So what have he got to complain about, it was their choice to not play in the league.
