A forum for all things Cardiff City

Speaking to a few Cardiff RFC fans this afternoon, they tell me that if Cardiff get to the Premiership it will spell the end for the egg in Wales. The regions are on their arses as it is. Talks of amalgamations and possibly going down to three or even two regions is a real possibility. Player drains to France and England and a huge loss of interest from the fans. Heaps of South Wales have lost interest in the egg due to the regions. Look at the Valleys.
Will our success finally kill it off? You have to believe that we are going to attract a heck of a lot of new fans when we go up.

the egt went dead as soon as the regional game was introduced for a so called professional sport the wru seem to be too controlling of the clubs ,the english premiership is flying and the english rfu doesnt get involved

My boy had tickets given to him by his school, it was in our ground tho, but they didn't fill the grandstand, not sure if it was because of the time, was a night game.

For years we have been criticized by the eggers, for years the media ignored the football played in South Wales. Due to us and the Jacks successes we are now seeing footballs popularity in Wales soar. Rugby fans deep down know that the pro game in Wales is at risk of collapse and will become very quickly a grass roots game only with the best players playing abroad.

what i dont get with the clubs is why dont they all tell the wru to f**k off and go it alone like the premier league done in football ? the old system where you had valleys team pontypridd neath etc could become a force again

I admit that I was an egg chaser and always believed it was our National sport but now believe that it is only a day out when Wales play, the regions attendances are very poor and the principality league is also very poor. When we go up more youngsters will follow the Bluebirds and will want to become the next Bellamy etc having a knock on effect to the number of youngsters wanting to play rugby.

Football has always been more popular than egg-chasing in South Wales. The Welsh media, and establishment, public schools, grammar schools back in the old days, etc try to plug the egg, but deep down, they know the truth. Personally, I have always hated egg-chasing, especially Welsh egg-chasing, with a passion. Ridiculous, highly camp game. If the egg does die, then good riddance.

Peter Manning was my PE teacher in school, rugby was the only thing taught football didn't get a look in, even though most of us were begging for football in PE

Too many eventers and not enough rugby fans. Shame both sports can't exist side by side but Welsh rugby has killed itself.
I can't wait for my football club, called Cardiff City and based in Cardiff, to reach the Prem and attract large crowds regularly, preferably of football fans and not eventers.

I know there's not many fans of rugby on this forum, but if the cardiff blues folded and we lost our rugby representation, it would be a sad day in my opinion, there's enough room for the both of us in this city. Be nice to see all our sporting clubs in cardiff thriving
