Shocked to see that we even have more than Newcastle at the same stage! Looking good so far, halfway there :D

Immediate stand out point is our lack of draws. Turning those close games into wins has proved vital for us this season whereas in the past we've let many leads slip back to draws :ayatollah:

One thing that stands out, have you missed out last years table at the top? You have Jan 2013, Jan 2011 & Jan 2010. No Jan 2012.

Sorry Merlin :D I have been staring at previous league tables constantly for a month now trying to squeeze stats out all over the place. I can spot a mistake at a hundred paces.

I find it interesting we've actually scored more goals than either QPR or Newcastle yet we still have a worse goal difference.

So much for us falling apart after Christmas as well.

In the play-off finals at Christmas, in the play-offs at the end of the season.

one thing stands out is that WBA were on 47 pts at this stage and ended up with 92pts
thats 45pts in the last 20 games very impressive , hope no team matches that this time :ayatollah:

What is also extremely interesting, is Reading's position in January 2012, compared to the where they finished in 2012!

It highlights what signing the correct players in January, can do for you for the rest of the season. Jason Roberts was a true stroke of a masterpiece signing by them.

If we sign Brayford (or similar) and a striker either Sordell, but much preferred Austin, I think we can do the job!

One thing's for certain, Strengthening the team is a must IMO. :ayatollah:

Great post, nice one! I love the fact we are ahead of Newcastle on points so far, as they just walked this league. The draw thing is a very good point, the ball has been bouncing in our direction this year. I've always thought that 90 points is plenty for an auto spot, and this proves good here. So 34 points 10 wins and 4 draws will be great. If I'm honest and optimistic I think we will get more wins, and do it in style!

I did like comparing our situation to Newcastle's. But they had such a brilliant last 20 games I started looking elsewhere for comparisons as we HAVE to go through a tiny blip.

Start looking at the points difference between 1st and 3rd then 1st and 7th in the other seasons. Even then we are still looking good.

In previous seasons point differences now and at the end of the season more or less remained the same. So the good runs and lulls evened themselves out. Even taking into consideration Reading, who came from nowhere, they only ousted WHU, Southampton remained in the top two. :ayatollah:

Boro and Cardiff were ahead of Reading in January 2012. So in fact, their team strengthening outdone the pair of us as well. Cardiff distracted with the Carling cup run, and we had a bad dip of form because of it, and Boro just fell away with lack of cash, and not able to strengthen as they would have liked to keep themselves pushing on.

Bringing in two or three quality players in January usually has a very positive affect. Not just because of the strengthening but also it deflates those around you. MM has said a few times that Readings signing of Jason Roberts last year was sublime. So he knows what to do.

Could we not HAVE had that blip at the start of the season?

the team top after 26 games went up in all those seasons.

Re: "COMPARING LEAGUE TABLE OVER LAST 3 YEARS"

One big thing that stands out for me is we are 14pts ahead of what reading had at the same stage last season, they had 42 after 26 games and won the league so looks like we got a bit of a cushion to have a little bad run or two, aslong as they not to big :violent2:

Also we have 12pts more than what norwich had 2 seasons ago (44) and 9pts more than west brom (47) 3 seasons ago and they both went up automatic, so going on those stats its looking extremely good for us and fills me with even more confidence that this is our year!!!

The blues are going up :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I think there is a stat that 8 out of 10 league leaders after 23 games have gone up. I need to try and work out when that stat moves to 100%. After how many games has EVERY league leader gone on to be promoted. Be back soon. :D

The last line of my post above just reminded me why dont we sing this no more?

The blues are going up
The blues are going up
And now you guna believe us
And now you guna believe us
And now you guna belieeeeevvvvvve ussssssss
The blues are going up!!!

I remember us singing this for years right up to last year, even if we was top after a few games

But i havnt heard it once so far this season and we are in a better position to go up than we have ever been!

Do you think its cos we play in red now or just to many new fans who dont know it :ayatollah:

A few people on here have said that another 30 points and we will be champions, well looking at those tables, only once have we accumalated less than 30 points in the last 20 games, and that was last season when we got 29 points, in 2011 we got 36 points and 2010 we got 34 points.
